For 25 years, I have been working with adults, children, and families in various roles: elementary school teacher, teacher trainer, caregiver advocate, parent coach, and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist.
I enjoy connecting with parents and caregivers of neurodiverse children to help them navigate raising their unique humans. I also work with individuals struggling with anxiety and depression brought on by chronic or sudden life stressors. This work is largely about identifying and examining old beliefs, coping mechanisms, and patterns of communication from the person's past that are no longer useful in current situations. In this way, people can learn and grow beyond their old habits.

I am a fully licensed marriage and family therapist that has been in practice for almost a decade.
Couples that work with me all say the same thing at the end of therapy, "Why didn't we do this sooner?" Probably because many of them are afraid that couples therapy is just going to confirm that their relationship is over. How is it that you can love someone so much and be so frustrated with them at the same time? Why is it that you can share such tender moments at some points and at others dread when you hear them coming home? Well, the answer is that just like the body can be sick, your communication and interactional patters can be sick too. A good couples therapist knows what the disease is and how to treat it.

I completed my Masters degree in Marriage & Family Therapy with a concentration in Sex Therapy from Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, PA.
As a Couple and Family Therapist, I am honored to collaborate with clients in deciphering what may be holding you back from the freedom to live a more whole, robust life. A concentration of mine is in working with those who have attentional difficulties or learning differences such as ADHD, whether in a couple, family, or individual setting.

I'm currently a clinical intern at Steffen Counseling Services, studying Marriage and Family Counseling at George Fox University, after a long-term career as a teacher.
I work with individuals & couples navigating challenges related to ADHD, identity, relationships, and career. Whether you're a young adult figuring out next steps, a parent supporting a struggling child, or someone in a helping profession feeling the weight of burnout—I provide a grounded, compassionate space to explore what’s next. With a background as both a professional artist and educator, I understand the pressures of creative and caregiving roles, and how these can shape (and strain) your sense of self. I also help couples strengthen communication and intimacy, building relationships that feel more connected and collaborative.

Some common issues that I work with are marital & relational distress, anxiety, depression, and trauma.
As an Emotionally-Focused therapist, I believe that we were created for safe & secure relationships. We are hard-wired with core needs to feel seen, valued and supported, and to the extent that we don't experience that, our bodies learn to protect themselves from the inevitable pain that follows.

How does marriage counseling work?
Marriage counseling works by teaching couples concrete skills to communicate with one another and solve disagreements in healthy ways. A trained mental health professional works with both members of a couple to explore difficulties the couple may be having and helps them develop skills to address these matters. Couples who don’t have any difficulties but want to prepare for marriage may develop skills for the future.
How long does marriage counseling typically last?
Marriage counseling is a short-term form of therapy; the process may last between four and eight sessions. Other forms of relationship guidance from mental health professionals, such as couples therapy, are longer lasting, may focus on the past rather than just the present, and are tailored to the individual couple and their emotions, history, and patterns in the relationship. Couples therapy often lasts for 12 weeks or longer.
Is marriage counseling effective?
Marriage counseling helps many couples develop relationship skills that may not have been acquired or tested in a relationship; partners may be better able to communicate and address conflict following counseling. However, there are many different forms of marriage counseling, and this form of counseling does not have as strong an evidence base as other modalities such as couples therapy.
Is marriage counseling effective if only one partner wants to go?
Yes, marriage counseling can still be effective if one partner convinces the other to engage in the process. Of course, whether counseling is effective depends on the couple’s commitment to work on their relationship; however, the short-term, skills-based nature of marriage counseling makes it a relatively easy “ask” of a partner, and the hesitant individual may see its value once counseling begins.
