"If you are looking for someone that is hilarious and kind yet professional and tells you how it is, Jack is your man .
I guarantee your first session will be within 48 business hours of receiving your paperwork. I’ve been certified in EMDR since 2018 and as a consultant in training for EMDRIA, I train other therapists to utilize EMDR. As a clinically certified trauma specialist, my focus is to help you resolve previous traumas in your life. Clients have said that coming to see me is like seeing a good friend or sitting in their friend’s living room. I say that's how therapy is supposed to be. The comfort, along with my training and ability to help you heal, aid clients in experiencing success within the first few sessions.

I've been passionate about offering therapy to queer people for all of my 40 years as a therapist. While therapy with gay men has been the heart of my practice, along the way I've gained experience working with other people and situations: e.g., women; people of various classes, ethnicities and races; massive cultural trauma; HIV and other grave and/or chronic illness, including migraines; grief and mourning. And I love working with artists! Since moving to Seattle in 2006, I've found myself working with a wide range of couples, work which remains rewarding, challenging, and a welcome constant in my practice.

Through graduate training, clinical experience, and research, I have developed expertise in the following areas: men and masculinity; eating disorders and body image concerns; mental health concerns related to spirituality/faith; healing from trauma and unwanted sexual experiences; positive psychology; and health psychology.
Thank you for visiting my profile. I provide psychotherapy and assessment services to adults (individuals, couples, and groups) who are struggling to thrive. I help others increase insight into their struggles and make concrete changes toward experiencing a more fulfilling life. During difficult times it is common to struggle with daily functioning while also trying to heal broader psychological and emotional concerns (e.g., trauma, relational struggles, problematic behavior). Therefore, I often will establish short-term and long-term goals, collaboratively with you, so that counseling can be sustainable, supportive, and effective.

My practice focuses on working with men and adolescents struggling with issues concerning, anger management, impulsivity, chronic shame, divorce, relationships, anxiety, depression, overwhelmingness, identity, and sexuality.
Isolation is the killer. For many adolescent and adult males influences to pivot away from isolation and towards healing, connection, and growth is complex, challenging, and hopeful. My clients are invited to explore their “painful wounds” and discover how their pain’s influence leads to self-identity issues, certain behaviors, relationships, and patterns that decrease movement toward growth. Growth towards living with a full heart of emotions, less ambiguity, finding increased purpose, and engaged relationships. Growth towards self-compassion and employing in their lives what they value most.

I offer a holistic approach to help young people who are impacted by mental and behavioral health concerns. I begin work with each youth by seeking to understand their personality, their skills and challenges, the environments they are embedded in, and the way mental health symptoms are impacting them. I provide treatment that is grounded in a humanistic, youth-centered approach using mindfulness and DBT skills. I include creative and play therapy in my practice as structures that help facilitate our work together, and offer nature and music therapy to interested youth. Many of the youth I work with identify as boys and young men .

I work with adult men and women.
Psychotherapy involves entering into the stuck places of your life and listening for how you struggle to live freely and authentically. It involves discovering, caring for, and reshaping the parts of your mind that are related to the problems you experience. This may involve learning to recognize unhelpful responses to pain that have themselves evolved into addictive or compulsive behaviors, addressing problematic relational patterns or making room to feel the deep hurts of loss or trauma and learning how to live well with the wounds that have shaped you.

I work with men who struggle to manage anger, who are struggling to create and maintain emotional and relational intimacy, and men who are finding it hard to manage work stress, anxiety, and depression.
I seek to create a warm, down-to-earth, and accepting experience for you to explore the hard-ass things in life. Many of us, myself included, were rarely taught how to connect with and understand our emotions, and so when we experience difficult feelings like shame, fear, and pain, we don’t know how to engage them in a helpful way. But that can change. We will work together to promote positive change and restore direction, meaning, and resilience during these difficult times. We will be teammates in our work together.

Life can be challenging. Maybe you’ve been feeling overwhelmed, stressed, confused, or stuck. Maybe the things that used to help you feel better aren’t helping so much anymore. Perhaps you are experiencing a sense of disconnection from who you want to be or from people important to you. Know that what you are feeling is valid, and you have the capacity to change. I welcome anyone seeking help, and have experience serving individuals who identify as LGBTQ+ and as members of various ethnic and cultural groups. I also recognize that as a white, cisgender, hetero male , my life experience may be quite different from yours.

I work with men who have difficulty identifying with their feelings, struggle with depression and anxiety, or have issues with their work/life balance. My clients typically struggle with expressing themselves in their relationships. They feel lonely, hopeless, and isolated. They are overworked and under loved. In our work together, I will give you support, feedback and insight, and constructively challenge patterns and beliefs that may be getting in your way. Together we can strive to understand the roots of the struggles you are experiencing in your life.

How can I find a therapist in Seattle?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist, psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
