My ideal client is someone who has an intention to change. During my 32 years as a practicing therapist I have encountered a wide range of issues. I believe that the core of helping people is to listen. Effective listening gives me a deep understanding of your current situation. I can then gently point you toward getting more of what you want. Therapy is the work of my life.

Everyone carries emotions, memories, and physical sensations from difficult experiences, and consequently there are parts of yo (i.e. behaviors, thought patterns, etc) that work very hard to help keep you safe. I welcome every part of you. Together we will hold space for your pain without rushing to distract, avoid or escape from it, and my goal is to help you access the active healing presence inside. I personally understand that being a POC poses many challenges in this country and seeking support from clinicians who don't look like you or talk like you makes it far more difficult. I see you and I'm here for you.

I specialize in compassionate, effective psychotherapy with a focus on relationships, sex, and intimacy. My approach is personalized and integrates Developmental Model techniques with affirming care for those in kink and polyamorous communities. I help individuals and partners navigate the complexities of intimacy and connection. In a culture that often prioritizes individuality over community, many people feel isolated—especially when it comes to something as stigmatized as sex. You're not alone.

Nobody has their life totally together, we just happen to notice our own chaos more than everyone else’s. We all love deeply, learn slowly, trip on old habits, and sometimes forget that being a messy human is exactly what we’re supposed to be doing. I want to help you embrace those messy pieces of yourself. In our work together, we’ll slow down, get curious, and create new ways to understand and engage with the story of your life. I’m here to support you in navigating relationship issues, shame, life transitions, Gen-Z challenges, kink, trauma, asexuality, other LGBTQIA+ identities, and most anything else life throws at you.

I believe that therapy is about mining for an enlivened authenticity while reorienting one’s relationship to suffering. In successful therapy, the therapist is providing for the client a relationship unlike any the client has had before, where difficult - and often vulnerable - conversations are fostered within a safe container. From this is born new and more adaptive coping strategies, ways to move through conflict and pain, and recurring invitations to return to the present moment - with compassion.

I know that reaching out for therapy can be so intimidating especially with issues related to sexuality. You may be looking to step into a more authentic version of yourself or you may be dealing with relationship struggles. You may have felt stuck for some time or are just beginning to question what doesn't feel right. Together, we can embrace the challenges of life's struggles and work to find more ease. I am an identity affirming therapist who especially loves working with people who are queer, BIPOC, neurodivergent, disabled, or somehow 'othered' by society.

For 25 years I worked with over 16,000 suicidal patients on the mental health unit of St. Francis Hospital with my office partner, Psychiatrist Dr. Sunida Bintasan, From observing their common patterns, I created an educational program (for persons with issues of deep despair, hopelessness, depression, feeling "LOST" & "TRAPPED" & "STUCK", and often with recurrent suicidal thinking) called Contextual-Conceptual Therapy (CCT). Combining expressive arts techniques, education, and therapy using "maps, models, & metaphors", it helps clients discover the roots of their deep despair, feeling trapped & lost, and/or suicidal thinking.

With 42 years as a therapist I can say that my passion and joy is sitting with couples and individuals who want more meaning and depth in their relationships. Spirit leads the way in my work. Watching couples light up when they understand how to "be present with curiosity in listening to their partner" adds spark to my day. Knowing that they are beginning to get the tools for change that grow inner confidence is what brings richness to my work and hope for them.

How does Imago therapy work?

Imago relationship therapy is a form of couples counseling meant to help partners address conflict, communication problems, and related issues. Imago sessions typically involve couples sitting facing each other and participating in guided conversations. Therapy will also involve exercises such as re-imagining one’s partner as a wounded child; re-romanticizing a relationship through appreciation, surprises, and even gift-giving and restructuring frustrations by transforming complaints into requests. The ultimate goal is to re-envision the relationship as a source of safety and happiness.

What is the Imago method?

A core technique of Imago therapy is the Imago dialogue, in which partners learn to avoid hurtful statements and establish ways to interact based on each having equal space and power. In the dialogue, partners take turns as the “sender,” who shares their thoughts, and the “receiver.” The receiver is asked to “mirror,” or paraphrase, what their partner has said, without response or rebuttal, and then validate their statements, acknowledging understanding even if they do not personally agree with it. Finally, the receiver displays empathy by stating what they imagine the other is feeling, and showing appreciation for it.

How long does Imago therapy take?

As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for Imago therapy. After becoming comfortable with a therapist and the core techniques of Imago coaching, some couples quickly make progress, but most should expect sessions to extend for months, encompassing at least 12 to 20 sessions, along with extensive “homework” from their therapist.

Does Imago therapy work?

There is limited empirical evidence to support the benefits of Imago therapy, but some smaller studies suggest that it does help couples, at least in the short-term. A 2017 study found that marital satisfaction increased significantly after couples completed 12 sessions of Imago therapy, and remained higher for some time after that, but did not always result in “complete recovery.” Other studies found greater empathy and fewer feelings of relationship burnout in couples after therapy. Some research suggests that Imago therapy can aid individuals as well as couples; people with ADHD in particular may benefit from the development of communication, self-control, and listening skills that form the basis of the technique.
