My therapy is shaped by
Gestalt
theory, my experience of working with patients at the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, and my work with bipolar, depressed and anxious clients.
Are you at a moment in your life when you realize that it might be helpful to discuss your current life situation with someone who could help guide you out of a stuck or confused place? People often feel overwhelmed, depressed or anxious when they deal with transitions in life - a change in work, health or relationships.

Trained in
Gestalt
therapy, I work collaboratively and empathically with clients and am open and directive in pointing out patterned behavior.
I have been privileged to care about and help clients for nearly 30 years. I work to understand their particular pain and identify their patterns. Together, we honor those patterns for the benefits they provide and experiment with updating them to allow for conscious choice and a better fit to current circumstances and opportunities. Often, traumatic experiences have shaped the patterns they chose, and clients will again need to choose how to respond to the traumatic material and its reverberations. Clients may additionally be impacted by chronic illness, mood disorders/Bipolar, attentional issues/ADHD, grief and loss.

These are likely to include dialogue, interpretation, cognitive restructuring, reframing, relaxation techniques, visualization,
gestalt
awareness experiments, self-monitoring exercises, bibliotherapy, exploring family of origin, attachment, systems theory, multicultural frameworks, and oppression awareness.
Many clients come to therapy for multiple reasons; most clients are seeking when the "anxiety" is too much to endure. I provide therapy for individuals-(children, adolescents and adults), couples, and facilitate process groups. I also am a multicultural educator. I help individuals cope with mechanisms that will help find ways to make different choices and re-invent ourselves; so we then become the architect, the planner and the builder of our lives, throughout our lives. I provide workshops and presentations that deal with undoing multiple oppressions in both queer and communities of color.

I am trained in working with body and mind to help you experience more vitality, choice, and empowerment. Therapy is an opportunity to explore the terrain of the self; to understand oneself better and feel more connected to others. My mission is to provide a safe and compassionate environment for healing, exploration, and expression.

Gestalt
Therapy. This means that in session we focus on the here and now, a gentle journey of self-awareness and self-discovery. I’m passionate about helping you find personal freedom, inner peace, empowerment, self-trust, and a life lived in choice. I incorporate art and drawing practices into sessions, as called. My practice is grounded in Buddhist philosophy, and I may pull from a variety of mindfulness-based modalities throughout a session.

In regards to traditional psychotherapeutic approaches I utilize several modalities including, but not limited to, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT),
Gestalt
, Psychodrama, Modern Psychoanalysis, PACT (Level 1), and Group therapy.
I am in awe of the function of human beings as story-tellers and meaning-makers. The meaning you make from your experience is important and valuable. Sometimes the meaning made from an experience can serve as a barrier; to intimacy, to growth, to happiness. Undergoing psychotherapy can be a highly rewarding and beneficial process. Therapy is taking a moment to step out of the role of ‘doing’ in order to just ‘be’ so to reflect on your current life, especially as it is informed by the past. Encouraging self-awareness and, in particular, self-acceptance, are ongoing goals that are the cornerstones of the work I do.

We all are living in a very unusual time. Our pre-pandemic challenges and difficulties have taken on a new dimension. How we adapt to limitations, losses, grief, isolation, how we assimilate changes - all this shapes us, determines our ability or limitations to deal, to cope now. I am invested to meet you where you are at the moment, to guide you toward awareness of it, to help understand your needs, how you care or not about them, to look what else is available for you so, that you would like your outcome. I am interested in working with adults, individually or in any relationship structure.

Gestalt
therapy is oriented around building awareness: of ourselves, of our thoughts & behaviors, of our choices, and of our physical systems that are constantly sending us invaluable data about our experiences.
Are you struggling to show up in the present? Do you ever feel 'haunted' by past experiences that foreclose your way toward the future you want? I have met such roadblocks myself and believe that building a healthy interpersonal relationship in therapy paves the road to unlocking your goals & desires. I have specialties working with queer women & femmes in addressing anxiety, t/Trauma processing & recovery, sexual assault, and identity exploration.

Whatever the present condition of our life, we have had an intrinsic role in creating it, whether we see it or not. The good news is that once we have enough awareness to take ownership, we can consciously create what is next. Our greatest ally is self awareness and clarity. My role as a therapist is to help you identify and resolve your obstacles (internal and external) and to help you clarify your life purpose and direction. In an empathic relationship that stresses authenticity, our processes will lead to in depth exploration and releasing.

Gestalt Therapists
What is gestalt therapy?
Gestalt therapy is based on the idea that to address unresolved negative feelings, emotions must be not only discussed but also actively expressed in the present moment. The term is from a German word meaning “whole,” and gestalt therapists believe that people should be considered whole entities made up of mind, body, and emotions. Gestalt sessions are rooted in the notion that a client’s total self must be discovered, explored, and confronted, so that they can take greater responsibility for themselves and their behavior, learn to satisfy their own needs while still respecting the needs of others, and reconnect with feelings they might otherwise deny.
How does gestalt therapy work?
Gestalt therapy sessions do not just involve talking with a therapist. Clients may take part in role-playing, re-enactment, or artistic exercises like drawing and painting, with the goal of becoming more aware of negative thought patterns that limit happiness. One common gestalt exercise is “the empty chair,” in which a client sits across from an empty chair representing a partner, relative, boss, or a part of themselves—and, with the therapist’s encouragement, improvises a dialog with it. The intention is to bring the emotions raised by past conflicts into the present and work through them in the moment.
How long does gestalt therapy last?
As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for gestalt therapy; people who believe that they are making progress typically continue until they feel they’ve addressed the issues that had been holding them back. New patients should understand that it may take some time to become comfortable with gestalt exercises but once they do, they should expect sessions to extend for a number of months, typically spanning at least 12 sessions.
Does gestalt therapy work?
Gestalt therapy has generally been found to be as effective as other forms of talk therapy in helping people living with anxiety, depression, phobias, bipolar disorder, and substance use disorders, as well as helping individuals reduce conflict in relationships. Gestalt techniques, on their own or in combination with other therapies, can also be effective in managing physical ailments including ulcerative colitis, migraines, and back spasms. It should be noted that some people may have trouble adapting to gestalt therapy’s lack of formal structure or to a therapist’s close observations of their body language and emotions; others may struggle to commit to techniques that feel unnatural, like the empty chair exercise.
