I utilize Cognitive Behavioral therapy,
EMDR
& others to help you heal.
In this day and age we have so many things pulling us in all directions. We have doctors appointments, school functions, social gatherings and so many other things where we constantly have to send our energy. Sometimes it can be hard to remember to take care of our mental health in there as well. Prioritizing this is so very important though. It is what helps us to be able to not just survive but also thrive.

My mission is to guide people past guilt, shame and fear towards their personal power so they can lead a life of freedom and wholeness. I work in terms of 3 month Intensives. I practice therapy to support real change in people. I want you to dedicate yourself to 3 months of focused, intensive weekly work and then get back to your life as whole person!

I am an
EMDR
-trained therapist who integrates Emotion Focused Therapy with here-and-now processing techniques.
Brené Brown says that “sometimes the bravest and most important thing you can do is just show up.” My clients are those who want to show up for themselves. They are often deeply-feeling, highly-sensitive people who have struggled to integrate all parts of themselves, but who are ready to experience the confidence that comes from owning painful chapters of their stories. My clients have often survived trauma and want to meet their past in a way that opens up freedom for their future. In other words, my clients are brave change-makers who haven’t yet fully realized that their sensitivity is perhaps their greatest superpower.

We will breathe together, and possibly use processing methods such as
EMDR
and Flash Technique, in order to help "digest" difficult experiences and emotions.
Making a good connection with you, making sure you feel heard, understood, and validated: these are the foundation of a good therapeutic relationship. Having the experience of being deeply listened to helps turn down the noise, so you can hear what the Quakers call “the still small voice” within yourself. This experience is all some people need to start making progress in their lives. People who have worked with me have said, "I know myself better now" and "I'm on my side now."

Hi - I'm Alyxx. My pronouns are they/them. My ideal client is someone living on the fringes, someone who feels like they have never quite fit in with the thin/white/cis/het esthetic that is so predominant in our culture. If you are ready to do the work to change, I'm ready to walk that path with you!

In addition to talk therapy, I use
EMDR
(eye movement desensitization and reprocessing) when appropriate.
I believe a commitment to therapy is a commitment to oneself. It is very powerful to commit to grow and change in ways that increase a sense of personal satisfaction with one's life. I work with individuals who want to resolve issues of unrest, dissatisfaction or distress that recur in their lives. I believe as clients learn to increase their trust in themselves they can better trust others and better direct their lives. This work involves coming to a better understanding of the influence of past experiences, as well as present influences, and may include exploring deeper spiritual isssues.

Feelings of despair, anxiety, rage, confusion, hopelessness, and depression are normal responses to a broken world. This brokenness manifests as oppression, inequality, trauma, destruction, and violence. Sometimes it can seem impossible to feel whole given the state of things. And yet, it is my deeply held belief that we can heal both individually and collectively, to find ourselves whole again, belonging.

Who is EMDR for?
EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.
Why do people need EMDR?
People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.
What problems does EMDR treat?
First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.
What happens in EMDR therapy?
First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
