I believe in the importance of feeling connected in relationships, to our environment, and to ourselves. Addressing the “here and now” that arises during therapy allows our sessions to adapt and work with the difficult emotions or thoughts that come up, in an environment that is judgment free and safe. I specialize in working with those who are experiencing anxiety, depression, agoraphobia, trauma, life transitions, self-esteem issues, grief and chronic pain, among other issues. I am LGBTQIA+, gender-affirming, and enjoy working with clients along the spectrum of neurodiversity and disability. Learn more about me here: cicadamh.org

Suffering is not evidence of failure. It is evidence of one thing... your humanity. We all suffer sometimes and we all deserve compassion and care simply because we're human. Coming to therapy can be scary. Even as you're reaching out to have a chance at a better experience in life, you want to know that who you are, and where you are now, will be respected and cared for. I believe good therapy can be both challenging and gentle, supportive and enlivening.

It takes courage to ask for help. Life seems to throw us one challenge after another and we can feel weighed down by the stress of daily living. Sometimes we can lose sight of what makes us feel special and valued. I am here to work with your individual needs. Feelings of anxiety, depression, anger, and loneliness can leave us feeling disconnected from others. If we do not take the time to understand where these feelings stem from and how they affect us, we cannot begin to heal and feel whole again. I value you as an individual and want to understand your unique experiences. I want to help you to feel safe and accepted at all times.

I center my work with Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC) persons at their intersections, most often LGBTQA+, artists, activists, deep seekers, and other healers. Many have a strong spiritual connection to their current obstacles and are willing to integrate that into their treatment. Presenting concerns range from racial trauma to life transitions, grief to identity. There is an understanding that what is presenting is not a problem, where the goal is creating more space around struggles, creating more options, finding a different perspective, and Being more fully.

I'm passionate about working with people who identify as or suspect they may be neurodivergent. I recognize that despite the wide diversities of experience that occur with ADHD, many individuals with the disorder are often overlooked because they don’t fit a stereotyped idea of what people think ADHD looks like. Perhaps you have felt your struggles were invalidated or overlooked by family, friends, or even other professionals. Whether you are seeking diagnostic clarity for accommodations at school/work, help with next steps, or simply to better understand yourself, I can help.

Therapy can be a powerful way to better understand yourself. With deeper self-knowledge, we can have healthier relationships with ourselves and others, and lead more connected and meaningful lives. In our work together, we’ll collaborate to uncover parts of your story that are hidden, misunderstood, or in need of compassionate attention. At the same time, we’ll hold an awareness of how systemic power structures have shaped us. In our work together, we'll will foster more awareness, fluidity, and connection in the areas of your life where you may currently be feeling stuck, rigid, or disconnected.

Certified as a Professional Life Coach, (with a background as a Psychotherapist for Washington Residents Only) I enjoy helping people who are navigating Change. Change is the constant in our lives and sometimes it is helpful to have someone ask you the right questions to help you access your own inner resources and wisdom. These areas of change may include: vocational callings, stage of life, relationship shifts, changes in environments, and many others. I also do lots of work with people exploring issues related to their spiritual lives and journeys.

Openings now available! I specialize in working with folks who are stuck in negative patterns in their relationships both to self and others. The hardest patterns to break are often rooted in childhood family dynamics and societal pressures, which can lead to anxiety, depression, negative self-talk, and relationship conflicts. I can help you break these cycles by allowing you space to cultivate self-compassion, explore the roots of your challenges, and replace old patterns with new ways of being. I work with clients of all identities and have a particular fondness for working with folks who are newly diagnosed as neurodivergent.

Together, we will discover unexplored avenues of your experience so that a unique, creatively adaptive life of your own true self may unexpectedly open up. We will hear your story together, imagine its alternatives, and dispel restrictive illusions.

We get thrown for loops all the time, some are small and we bounce back, others are bigger and we may need help to navigate them. Many of the folks I see are at the top of one of these bigger loops; maybe you just received a new chronic illness diagnosis or are in chronic pain that is taking you away from what's important to you, maybe you're sexuality has shifted and you're struggling to make sense of it, maybe you're ready to unpack a trauma that's taking from your life, maybe you want to make a change with substance use that's not working anymore. The challenges we face can seem insurmountable and you don't have to go it alone!
