Life changes, transitions and losses are universal experiences that can often feel isolating and impossible to manage. I feel passionate about working with individuals who are feeling stuck while moving through change. My approach is to gently co-create a non-judgemental, therapeutic space that allows for authenticity, honesty and self-compassion. Our behaviors, reactions and beliefs about ourselves and others are often very valid responses we have learned and cultivated to survive in this world.

I have been practicing as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist since 2001. I have enjoyed my work with many individuals and couples. It has been very rewarding and fulfilling when see progress and growth in each of my clients throughout the counseling process. My approach in therapy emphasizes improving clients' emotional awareness. Once clients are aware and understand the triggers of their emotions, they are now "in control" of their emotions instead of emotions controlling them.

When our significant relationships are struggling, it can impact everything else in our lives. My style is conversational, relaxed, and empowering – I want my clients to feel like I get them, always. I primarily see couples and individuals who want to heal past hurts and increase intimacy. Many folks coming to therapy are looking for concrete strategies, feedback, and directness. I work to build a level of trust with my clients that allows me to offer new ideas and tools. Therapy can feel scary and intimidating, so my hope is to create a space that feels safe, even when we’re working to challenge patterns in your life.

At the core of my therapeutic approach is my belief that we heal and transform through authentic and empathic connection. I view therapy as a collaborative process where we co-create a space to engage what has been wounded and find medicine to heal and grow. Seeking healing and restoration is a brave and courageous journey that goes against all the systems of oppression that seek to wound and separate us. I considered it a profound honor to walk with someone in this journey through challenges, suffering, wonder, curiosity and pain, to find a healing, growth, embodiment and joy that follows us beyond the therapy room.

Do you often feel like everyone is watching you? Like you walk into a room full of people you have never met, and it feels like everyone is staring? Perhaps you believe that you were never meant for long-term relationships or that trust is unattainable. This may stem from childhood trauma or abuse that leads to self-sabotaging behavior and lures you towards isolation.

Are you living the life you desire? Do you want to find more peace, fun, and intimacy in your personal relationships? Anais Nin once said, "There came a time when the risk to remain tight in the bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom." This quote underscores my belief that change and growth are available to us all; we simply have to be willing for the process to unfold. You can create the life that you want. I will help you get there.

FAQ - Therapist Gender
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or because they feel more comfortable with a therapist of their own gender due to shared life experiences or perspectives. Considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender may matter or improve their therapeutic experience. The most important consideration is that a client is able to build a trusting relationship with their therapist.

Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist. For women, this could be because they believe that they will be able to better connect with a woman, and that a female therapist will be able to relate to their specific challenges and personal issues. It may be particularly beneficial for women to see a female therapist, for example, for gender-specific issues, such as sexism in the workplace, relationship issues, and gender roles. The most important factor in therapy is the client-therapist connection, and a therapist's gender as well as many other factors may play an important role in this.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
