I specialize in helping folks with anxiety, stress, sleep problems, sex , relationship problems, dating and intimacy concerns and trauma recovery. I provide a holistic approach to therapy, grounded in evidence-based treatments like cognitive behavioral therapy and mindfulness. This approach involves exploring, untangling and reworking thinking patterns, developing and nurturing mind-body connection and developing awareness and connection to the nervous system while using techniques like mindfulness, meditation and breathwork. For couples, I operate from the foundation of the science and research oriented Gottman Method.

As a therapist that works with couples and individuals, with a focus on intimacy and sexuality , I often work with people seeking deeper and more nourishing connections in their relationships and lives. Connection requires the courage to move into vulnerability and honesty to live one's truth about what they really need from their relationships. This is where I can help! I serve as a guide for individuals and couples in stepping into their own lives, to ask for what they need and to be present in and for their relationships.

My method of working is guided by developmental and attachment theory, and I offer traditional CBT and solution-focused talk therapy as well as trauma-responsive and body-integrative approaches including EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), mindfulness, and sex therapy .
It’s hard to be a person. Even when life is at its most joyful, our relationships, our pasts, and the constant presence of change can be overwhelming, confusing, or defeating. I’m here to help with that. Therapy is my second career. I chose this work because I believe everybody deserves nonjudgmental support, whether they are in crisis, preparing for change, or simply stuck. I have seen what can happen when pain has no witness. I have also experienced the transformations that can take place when hurt and struggle are seen, heard, and met with compassion, understanding, and perspective.

During our work together, we will be doing just that - working together! In our sessions I'll help you to identify what you (and your partner, if couples therapy) would like to see improved and how you visualize yourself, your relationship, and really your life by the end of therapy. From there I help you to recognize patterns, beliefs, and behaviors that may be keeping you stuck. My approach to helping you in this process is through a ‘person-centered’ therapeutic lens, as I trust that you are the expert in your life and that I am here to help you to understand your potential for positive change and to help facilitate that change.

We are all alive and trying to learn something about living; we live the way that we feel. We do this automatically (and whether we know it or not) in relationship: in relating to our self and to others. Therefore, my philosophy is everything is emotional and relational and mindful; everything matters.

My ideal client is someone who has an intention to change. During my 25 years as a practicing therapist I have encountered a wide range of issues. Having worked with a large number of clients to the point of solution, I have concluded that in the end, the core of helping people is to listen. Effective listening gives me a deep understanding of their current situation. I can then gently point them toward getting more of what they want. My experience and compassion have often proven to be crucial elements for our success. This is the work of my life.

I strive to provide a warm, supportive, and nonjudgmental space to explore what may be at the root of your distress. I believe each of us has a natural capacity to heal, and my role is to help you identify and remove the obstacles that stand in the way of your health, growth, empowerment and well-being. I mainly specialize in trauma, single events (like a car accident) or the kind that can be more complex, ongoing, or occurred in childhood (like growing up in a dysfunctional family). Sometimes symptoms present as anxiety or depression, complex PTSD or even chronic illness and pain. I am here to help the trauma unburden.

Tyson is a tele-health therapist who is passionate about working with people who find themselves in a place where they have suffered enough and desire true change. Therapy is a process that reveals the bright light within every person that is so often obstructed by pain and egoic defenses. He believes in the healing power of relationships that enable us to feel seen, soothed, loved and safe and that the extent to which a person has not experienced this, or may have experienced just the opposite, can sometimes reveal the need to grieve loss. On the other side of this grief is joy, peace and ultimately, real freedom.

I am currently accepting individual, adult clients who want to move away from unfulfilling thoughts and beliefs about their sexuality and sensuality . These topics may not have been talked about when you grew up or they were talked about negatively, and now you have discomfort around these topics. But you think, 'There's got to be something that feels better than this. There has to be more.' And up until now, you have been merely existing in this arena and you want to feel alive, fulfilled, and secure with your sexuality and sensuality .

I offer a collaborative, holistic, hands-on approach to therapy. I enjoy working with various relationship constellations and adult individuals. I primarily focus on serving the LGBTQIA2+ community, women, non-binary, and genderfluid folks, those looking for increased connection in their relationships, those who want to explore their sexuality and enrich their sexual selves. I recognize that it takes a lot of courage to start therapy. I aim to provide a space for you to feel genuinely heard, understood, and seen – no matter what you are dealing with.

Sex therapy can be intimidating.
*CURRENT OPENINGS* In my work with clients I have two major areas of focus: issues with relationship conflict, sexual compatibility, infidelity and intimacy. Whether as a couple or as an individual, I work with people to resolve on-going concerns. In my practice, all couples/individuals are welcome regardless of race, religion or sexual orientation. It is my belief that compassion and humor are agents of change and healing. I offer a safe and comfortable place for my clients to explore new ways of working on current or on-going problems.

Ah, this life! In the lyrics of an old song, ‘Nobody said it was easy, no-one ever said it would be so hard’. I’ve spent most of my life dedicated to human connection- to self and other— bringing deep curiosity to how we can belong deeply to ourselves, and still be loved and belong deeply to one another. It’s not easy. Yet, it truly is possible. And, we need courage and guides along the way. That is where I can help. Our time together is a place where you can unfold yourself. Where you can learn to trust again. I am skilled at working in the deeper realms of grief, depression, anxiety, trauma, and above all intimacy and sexuality .

I am an anti-racist, queer, sex and kink-positive therapist and human.
Please note: I am generally NOT accepting new clients; however, if you are interested working on / in IFS, complex trauma work, and/or racial / sexual trauma, I'm happy to talk. That's my ideal client. I'm not really interested in standard talk therapy and if you're looking for CBT or DBT or something like that, please look elsewhere. Also, if you are completely turned off by spiritual and shamanic elements, ditto.

Sex Therapy

Who is sex therapy for?

Sex problems are common in relationships. Many people want a better sex life and want to feel loved and desired by their partner. It is difficult for couples to resolve sexual problems on their own because people often feel ashamed to talk about their sexual desires fearing they are not normal, when in fact a very broad range of preferences and behaviors are normal. A sex therapist can help clarify this and other matters.

Why do people need sex therapy?

Many people do not know how to talk about their erotic needs or their emotional needs, both of which are addressed in sex therapy. Couples often live with sexual difficulties for years before seeking help, and in that time, partners may experience so much disappointment and alienation that they may fear their problems mean they are incompatible. Once people experience disappointment, it is difficult to find resolution without help.

What happens in sex therapy?

People have many misconceptions about what takes place in sex therapy. First, it is a form of talk therapy in which partners discuss their sexual concerns; it does not involve touching or physical exploration of any kind. Sex therapy typically helps couples get comfortable talking to each other about sex so that, in the privacy of their home life, they can openly discuss their sexual desires and make decisions about what they want to do. Couples are typically assigned activities to do at home that build intimacy skills.

What kinds of problems do sex therapists treat?

Very often, partners differ in their degree of sexual desire and struggle over how often to have sex. Or they may have fights about porn use or have difficulty connecting sexually after one partner is unfaithful. Men may have problems with premature ejaculation. Women may find themselves struggling to become aroused or to achieve an orgasm. Sometimes partners feel like they have lost the sense of attraction to their partner. These are all common issues dealt with in sex therapy.
