My goal is to create a space for you to bring yourself and be heard. I enjoy getting to know the people I work with and if you choose the work with me, the rich/complicated narrative of how you came to be who you are today. My role is to be present with you and to hold space so that together we can find each next step in your ongoing journey. We can enter this space together and create something new. A different way of seeing, a different path in a stuck area of life or an expanded understanding and grace for yourself. Bring yourself, as you are, with your strengths and stress and struggles.

Today's young adults have the ability to enact positive change in the world around us. With years of experience in supporting children, teens, and adults achieve their full potential and navigate rough patches, allow me to lend a hand. I view you as the expert on yourself, and come alongside as a coach to support and guide you in your journey. With families and children I utilize a team-based approach. All young adults can use an extra person in their corner to help navigate childhood, and I believe that working as a team with the family system allows for family members to grow and learn together.

I often describe therapy similar to the saying "everyone has baggage". It can be difficult to hold your own baggage while sorting the contents, trying to organize the things inside, or trying to find something you lost. My role is to hold your baggage to allow you the space, time, and understanding to do what you need to with what is inside.

I AM NOT CURRENTLY TAKING NEW CLIENTS! My goal as a therapist is to help you uncover your true potential & lead a life that is worth celebrating. I work to provide a safe and nurturing enviornment where you can receive support, guidance & feedback as I help guide you towards positive change. While we can't change difficult situations of the past, we can work together to better understand & resolve challenges in your life. I am passionate about working with young adults experiencing life transitions. There are many new challenges to be faced as we enter adulthood. Life can often feel stressful, overwhelming, and even hopeless at times. I believe that having a safe, nonjudgmental, culturally sensitive space to process these stressors can be a truly transformative experience. I work alongside my clients to help deepen their self-understanding so that they may feel empowered to create the positive changes that they want to see in their life.

You deserve a therapist who’s a good fit for you. A nonjudgmental listener who accepts you for who you are while also facilitating the changes you want to see for yourself. A professional who can provide valuable insights within a safe space to share and explore. Someone who sees the value in understanding and processing your personal history without losing focus on the present.

I approach my counseling with a belief that all children and young people have the potential to make positive change for themselves and for the world around them. I adapt my therapeutic approach to the client but often utilize strength-based counseling, positive talk therapy, and cognitive behavioral therapy techniques to encourage personal growth while I coach and help guide the way. I believe counseling has the power to change the direction of your life, by developing techniques, skills, and perspective that builds confidence and creates social emotional growth that lasts a lifetime.

As a member of the LGBTQIA+ community, I feel uniquely qualified to support other members of the community. Issues related to identity and sexuality, including anxiety, depression, and PTSD are of particular interest to me. I get excited knowing I will help someone come to terms with who they are and how they fit in the world. I have worked in mental health for 30 years, and specifically as an individual therapist since 2017. I approach therapy with a relaxed, sort of informal attitude. I do make the occasional pop culture reference, and often people don't get them, then we have a laugh. Are you an LGBTQIA+ veteran? Come see me!

When too much is too much and nothing seems to be working, therapy is an excellent place to start. We all respond to stress differently. Some common ways are lethargy, persistent thoughts, impulsive actions, body aches, or insomnia. You may apply words like depression, anxiety, or trauma to those symptoms which can feel big and scary. Therapy is where you can fully show up with any of it. Therapy contains the things that feel out of control and once a week or more you have a safe place to bring yourself authentically.

Hello. Thanks for stopping by. I’m a therapist who specializes in helping those struggling with anxiety, trauma, self-harm, personality disorders, attachment issues, neurodivergence (Autism, OCD, ADHD), and sexuality/kink concerns. In addition to being a therapist, I’m also a philosopher, and will implement an integrated view on wellness to help you make sense of your concerns, empower you, and give you the tools to live your best life. My goal is to help you actually get better, not just feel better as a result of our sessions. To do this, I aim to be warm and welcoming, but will compassionately challenge you when necessary.

Suicidal Ideation Therapists

How does therapy for suicidal ideation work?

Stress, depression, anxiety, or upsetting circumstances can give rise to suicidal thinking. Therapy can address the events at the core of an individual’s suffering. Understanding why a person may be suicidal can help the therapist and the patient discover alternative methods of coping. A person with suicidal ideation may be mired in catastrophic thinking, and treatment like cognitive behavioral therapy is a good choice for breaking such patterns. In addition, treatment such as acceptance and commitment therapy can help a person manage their distress through better emotion regulation.

Which therapies are best for suicidal ideation?

Specific approaches used by professionals include cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavior, psychodynamic, acceptance and commitment therapies, among others. Cognitive behavioral and dialectical behavior therapies are two widely used therapies that can help individuals with painful thoughts and past traumas. These therapies help an individual tolerate distress, regulate emotions, and not act on dangerous urges.

Are there specific medications to be combined with therapy?

The use of medication for suicidal thoughts must be aligned with the underlying cause; conditions such as depression, anxiety, and psychosis may be at the root of suicidal ideation. A psychiatrist may prescribe medications for symptoms, which may include antipsychotics such as aripiprazole or antidepressants such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors.

How often and how long are therapy sessions for suicidal ideation?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual. Patients may see improvement within 15 to 20 sessions, at an average of 50 minutes per session, while others may opt for 20 to 30 sessions over, perhaps, a six-month period. Still other patients, especially those with co-occurring conditions like major depression and anxiety, may need to continue sessions for up to 12 to 18 months. In some cases, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm.
