I primarily provide individual therapy to adults (ages 18-45) who wish to address acute or long-term trauma, specifically childhood sexual abuse /sexual assault but other traumas as well. I approach each client through a developmental lens, understanding that concerns manifest differently depending on one's age and developmental stage at the time of the trauma as well as at the time of treatment. I also am available to work with parents, many who are navigating challenges associated with helping a child who has been traumatized, who wish to explore more positive discipline strategies.

I love working with people who have come to a place in their lives where they want to make changes. Something is not working and they want to create a life with more joy, freedom, love, and integrity. Perhaps they are struggling with depression and anxiety, traumatic memories, difficult relationships, or grief, or perhaps they simply have the sense that they are not living fully. I work with my clients to establish a trusting relationship where they can speak honestly of the matters that most impact them and the events where they have felt anger, fear, grief, and shame.

Therapy offers a unique opportunity for your voice and your story – to explore with curiosity, to be seen and heard, to heal and grow toward a more fulfilling and meaningful life. Oftentimes, our stories can be fraught with turmoil, confusion, and pain. The challenges of relationships, stress, work or school can be overwhelming and isolating to navigate alone. Clients express a growing desiring for more beyond familiar patterns or experiences that leave them feeling stuck or exhausted. They report that the courage to honestly tend to current hopes and struggles, including their past, to be a significant and meaningful decision.

“How can I reconnect intimately with my partner?” “How do we navigate having different levels of sexual desire?” “How do we rebuild trust after it’s been broken?” “Who am I and what does that mean?” These are all questions I have heard many iterations of in my therapy office, so if you’ve found yourself asking some of these same questions, you’re not alone. Whether you're tackling rebuilding trust, cultivating intimacy, exploring sexuality, deconstructing harmful self-narratives, or developing communication skills, it is an honor to walk alongside you during this journey, as you invest in yourself and your relationships.

I recognize that my clients know themselves and their identities more intimately than I do and that people have what they need to heal. My job is to walk along side you as a guide on your path to wholeness. I have experience treating symptoms of depression, anxiety, panic and the effects of trauma. My approach to treating trauma is rooted in body-based talk therapy. I focus on helping you understand and manage the ways trauma is interfering in your life. We focus on present day experiences, rather than having you retell traumatic stories of past events. Certain attachment harm does benefit profoundly from narrative work.

Have you been a go-getter all your life, but recently feel resentful and burnt out? As a high achiever, it’s confusing to feel disconnected from the passion that has always driven you. Maybe this dissatisfaction has been slowly growing over the years & you’ve been able to manage it. But now you’re questioning whether all those long hours are worth it. You may also be feeling exhausted & unsure how something that used to be enjoyable just isn't anymore. The habitual stress of being exceptional in your work can also lead to health problems that medical doctors aren’t skilled at addressing. That's where I come in.

As a trauma therapist, I believe that personal growth and transformation is vital to the human experience, and that sometimes we need support through this process. Therapy is embarking on a journey, and you are the hero of your story. In meeting with you where you are at in your journey, I will help you to develop your own set of skills to help you through your daily experiences. I also encourage approaching challenges with vulnerability and self-compassion and will assist in practicing these areas in our sessions. Even though painful experiences are inevitable, I believe that suffering does not have to hold us back from living.

My approach is rooted in the belief that how we relate to ourselves mirrors how we experience life and develop relationships. Not many of us were taught how to compassionately attend to our painful feelings, critical thoughts, or impulsive behaviors. Instead, we may have been scolded, shamed, or sent away for showing big feelings such as anger or sadness, praised for being self-reliant, or withdrawn from by parents who did not have the capacity to be with our feelings. When we can begin to shift from judgment and avoidance of the parts of ourselves that we may not approve of to curiosity; healing can begin.

My training and experience has primarily been with teens and adults, facing an array of challenges including sexual abuse , complicated grief, trauma, anxiety, family conflict, depression, loss, and other life-stressors.
The greatest and most freeing gifts you can give yourself are self-exploration and compassion. Together, we can work collaboratively to further develop these tools, uncover new ones, and foster your innate resilience. My goal is for you to feel safe, challenged, and empowered during our time together. The sheer fact that you are seeking assistance, demonstrates both strength and courage. I aim to create a non-judgmental, secure, and open-minded environment for clients to explore the entirety of their feelings. We will work together to problem-solve, create lasting change, and develop techniques to help overcome barriers in life.

I work with people in the arts, in high stress jobs, and from diverse backgrounds, who want help with depression, childhood sexual abuse , relationships, parenting, sexuality, life-transitions, DV, and spirituality.
Are you creative? In transition? Depressed? Different? Parenting? Re-discovering YOU? Are you wanting to make changes in your life or to heal from old wounds? Do you want to develop self-compassion? Do you want to learn how to be present for your life, to learn mindfulness to help you through the tough times? If so, let’s see if we can create a compassionate, interactive and authentic therapeutic relationship to work collaboratively towards healing. In therapy, I can help you identify your goals, look at what is and isn't working for you, explore your stories, emotions, and experiences (past and present), develop new skills, and embrace your learning styles and talents. I also provide consultation and supervision to therapists.

Sexual Abuse Therapists

How do therapists treat sexual abuse?

A good therapist will be nonjudgmental and possibly demonstrate active listening, repeating back what the client says to show that they have understood. These skills allow people to feel comfortable discussing their traumatic experiences openly. Some important treatment goals are to restore a sense of safety and to rebuild confidence. In addition to working one-on-one with the patient, a therapist might bring in supportive family members to assist the client.

Do you have to talk extensively about sexual abuse in therapy?

Survivors frequently find it difficult to describe what happened to them out loud. They can even still be in a state of denial if the sexual abuse occurred recently. It is important for survivors to acknowledge that what happened isn’t their fault and to challenge and reappraise any unhealthy feelings or thoughts as they arise. Art therapy and play therapy are useful non-verbal means of communication for some survivors.

How long does treatment for sexual abuse take?

Recovery from sexual abuse can be a long and difficult process. Some survivors are able to move on naturally on their own, given time, while others require the guidance of a trained therapist. Therapy needs vary and can range from a few sessions to months or even years. Healing from sexual abuse takes time, and everyone’s journey will look a little different.

Can trauma symptoms caused by sexual abuse come back after treatment?

As occurs in many cases of trauma, survivors of sexual abuse may experience PTSD-like symptoms long after the abuse has ceased or after an initial round of treatment has occurred. In such a case, there is evidence that prolonged exposure therapy is a useful treatment for survivors, and may be more efficacious than supportive counseling alone. While triggers may continue to cause distress, the idea is that, with time and repeated exposure, their power will fade, allowing survivors to move on with their lives.
