anxiety
, self-doubt and perfectionism. Symptoms related to these issues can manifest as feeling cut off from emotions, overwhelm, stress and burnout. I also provide services to athletes and performing artists who may be experiencing life transitions, performance

We will work towards bringing awareness to vulnerabilities,
fears
and unhelpful behaviors in order to cultivate healing, forgiveness, hope - individually or within a relationship.
Have you ever had that moment when suddenly you see a situation in a new light and your perspective changes for the better? My aim with therapy is to facilitate that "a-ha" moment for yourself within the struggle that is bringing you into therapy. By providing a validating and trusting space we can be curious about emotions without shaming or shutting them down. We can explore the story we tell ourselves and the meaning we give our lives. Sometimes we can't break out of certain behaviors/anxieties and need an outside, non-judgmental observer to help us see our patterns because we are "in it" and too close to see the big picture.

You have found them. Adolescent or adult, individual or a couple, call me for a free consultation, and let's see where to go from here!

I work with adults who have experienced trauma,
anxiety
, mood disorders, life transitions, relationship stressors, grief and loss, among other challenges in a geek and LGBTQ+ friendly environment.
As a trauma therapist, I believe that personal growth and transformation is vital to the human experience, and that sometimes we need support through this process. Therapy is embarking on a journey, and you are the hero of your story. In meeting with you where you are at in your journey, I will help you to develop your own set of skills to help you through your daily experiences. I also encourage approaching challenges with vulnerability and self-compassion and will assist in practicing these areas in our sessions. Even though painful experiences are inevitable, I believe that suffering does not have to hold us back from living.

Often I hear from clients, who have been in talk therapy for many years, that although they cognitively understand their trauma and why symptoms such as
anxiety
and depression exist, are still struggling.
My approach is rooted in the belief that how we relate to ourselves mirrors how we experience life and develop relationships. Not many of us were taught how to compassionately attend to our painful feelings, critical thoughts, or impulsive behaviors. Instead, we may have been scolded, shamed, or sent away for showing big feelings such as anger or sadness, praised for being self-reliant, or withdrawn from by parents who did not have the capacity to be with our feelings. When we can begin to shift from judgment and avoidance of the parts of ourselves that we may not approve of to curiosity; healing can begin.

Additionally, I support many tweens and adolescent with depression,
anxiety
and also work with family systems to address conflict patterns.
Many times when people find themselves in challenging circumstances, they are able to find solutions on their own. This innovation and resourcefulness in people excites me and gives me hope. Other times, the difficulties life throws one's way may seem too overwhelming, complicated or scary to deal with. Sometimes people come up with temporary solutions to problems so they can cope in the meantime. All of these responses to adversity and challenges are normal and, in my experience, people seek out therapy when their options or their “stories” feel stuck.

I recognize that my clients know themselves and their identities more intimately than I do and that people have what they need to heal. My job is to walk along side you as a guide on your path to wholeness. I have experience treating symptoms of depression,
anxiety
,
panic
and the effects of trauma. My approach to treating trauma is rooted in body-based talk therapy. I focus on helping you understand and manage the ways trauma is interfering in your life. We focus on present day experiences, rather than having you retell traumatic stories of past events. Certain attachment harm does benefit profoundly from narrative work.

Anxiety Therapists
What are the most common treatments for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.
How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.
When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.
How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
