We all find ourselves in circumstances at one time or another that call for adjusting to change or making decisions, whether it's charting a path through
grief
and
loss
, developmental transitions, job
loss
, recovering from trauma or the challenges of parenting. Therapy can be helpful in sorting through confusing thoughts and feelings, gaining insight, establishing a course of action amongst different choices, and building confidence through experiencing a deeper understanding of yourself, all in the context of a caring relationship.

I provide astrologically informed therapy. By that I mean that astrology is my main theoretical orientation, and is the guiding principle in how I understand people. I seek to help each person embody their essential nature more fully. My approach is non-pathologizing. I work to listen carefully to you to understand your experience. As we are all touched by suffering and
loss
, we sometimes must face difficulties that we cannot cope with on our own. In therapy we gain support to face and work through these kinds of issues. Above all, your concerns direct our work together.

I specialize in helping people heal the trauma wounds that limit their joy and wellbeing; on companioning those facing life altering
loss
; and on helping couples strengthen their emotional bonds, by recognizing the emotional wounds that are impacting their relationships and practicing patterns of interaction that support healing.
The emotional wounds caused by trauma, or by not getting our needs met when we are young, left untreated, continue to cost us dearly. They underlie our feelings of depression, anxiety, insecurity, and rage; our unhealthy patterns including addictions, eating disorders and insomnia; and the toxic, repetitive dynamics that keep playing out in our closest relationships, despite our best intentions. These wounds also compromise our motivation to move forward in our lives, and our ability to focus our attention, to make healthy decisions and to respond appropriately to what's happening around us.

My clients often begin therapy due to anxious and/or depressive symptoms emerging from more complex concerns that challenge their pursuits of meaningful living. They may have difficulties managing stress related to their relationships, work or study, and/or identity. Some struggle with the
loss
of someone or something important to them. Others may feel rudderless, uncertain about how to steer their life in a more fulfilling direction. In all cases I aim to provide a warm, nonjudgmental, and authentic relationship that encourages growth through the exploration of each client's sense of who they are and who they want to become.

I see therapy as a gateway to strengthening our authentic self through healing, learning, acceptance and growth. It is often through our self-proclaimed imperfections that we find the greatest gifts, insights and points of focus that help us understand and become clear about the path we are walking and the possibilities that are before us. We have all known suffering,
loss
, trauma and despair. These experiences may shape us but they do not have to define us.

How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.
When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.
Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.
What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
