I've been building my experience for more than 3 years working in Community Mental Health increasing my knowledge of mental health disorders such as anxiety, depression , PTSD, and more.
Queer, Latina, bilingual (Spanish-speaking) therapist, welcoming LGBTQ+ and BIPOC communities. Are you looking for a mental health service where all the different parts of you are explored? Though traditional talk therapy can be helpful, oftentimes a more broad approach will allow you to heal from past traumas and current life stressors, to be able to enjoy life again. Treatment is never one size fits all, I believe in a broad, person-centered therapeutic approach.

I work with adults for issues with relationships, PTSD, depression , anxiety, work problems.
Undergoing intensive psychodynamic psychotherapy is deeply personal. For many individuals, this adventure into unknown recesses of their psyches reveals personal vistas previously unimagined. Such exploration frequently involves painful disclosures, frightening discoveries, an extraordinary development of self-understanding, an increase in capacity for intimate sharing, and an integration of strengths and aspirations. Such a journey, with phases of both pain and exhilaration, usually takes place over an extended period.

I use a blend of somatic (body-centered) treatment and evidence-based practices like cognitive behavior therapy to help support clients of all ages experiencing anxiety, depression , limiting thoughts, stuck behavioral patterns, and trauma.
Contrary to what movies show you about therapy, I won’t give you unwanted advice or simply nod solemnly the whole session. I bring curiosity, compassion, humor, free expression, and movement to join with my clients and help them explore what healing means to them. I hope to empower clients to access their natural abilities and to gently disrupt the unhealthy patterns we humans often get stuck in using more than traditional “talk therapy” approach. My goal is to facilitate somatic healing, so your whole body begins to feel better as you gain new awareness and get “unstuck” from the patterns you’re ready to release.

Awareness is everything. How often do we ask ourselves: "How did I get back here again?" - repeating patterns of self-defeating behavior. Raising our awareness of these patterns can help free us from re-engaging in them. The rewards of this exploration are bountiful - as we watch new, healthier behaviors emerge. We get a glimpse of the gifts that life can offer us by simply getting out of our own way. In my practice, I have had the privilege of witnessing how the resultant emotional freedom can have a powerful healing effect on depression , anxiety and trauma.

As a clinical psychologist I work with clients who are attempting to change unrewarding or isolating patterns of relating to others, or struggling to modify unproductive thoughts or feelings. The process of therapy as I practice it relies on developing a trusting and collaborative relationship between client and therapist. It is in this atmosphere of support, encouragement and respect that areas of concern and patterns of behavior can be understood and changed. I work with both individuals and couples. I have advanced training in treating depression , helping couples work productively in relationships, modification of addictive behaviors, and cognitive assessment.

Seeking therapy can be a daunting process, while also being one step toward greater wholeness/healing. Relationship is where we are both wounded and healed. I work with individuals seeking relief from distressing symptoms such as; demanding too much of yourself, finding it hard to trust self, your experience, your mind, self-soothing through addictive behaviors, pleasing others at your own expense, anxiety, depression , PTSD. Our patterns of relating develop early within our first attachments, so our journey might include visiting some of those relationships to wonder how they impact you in the here and now.

Depression Therapists

What is the goal of therapy for depression?

Therapy for depression has several major goals. One is to relieve the mental pain of depression, which distorts feeling and thinking so that sufferers cannot see beyond their current state of mind or envision feeling better. Another is to give people the mental tools to recognize and correct the kinds of distorted thinking that turn a problem into a catastrophe and lead to despair. Therapy also teaches people how to process negative emotions in constructive ways, so they have more control over their own emotional reactivity. And it helps people regain the ability to see themselves positively, the motivation to do things, and the capacity for pleasure.

What happens in therapy for depression?

Perhaps most important, no matter the type of therapy, patients form an alliance with the therapist; that connection is therapeutic in itself, plus it becomes an instrument of change. Patients learn to identify and to challenge their own erroneous beliefs and thoughts that amplify the effects of negative experiences. They learn to identify situations in which they are especially vulnerable. And they learn new patterns of thinking and behaving. They may be given “homework” assignments in which they practice their developing skills. In addition, good therapists regularly monitor patients to assess whether and how much the condition is improving.

What therapy types help with depression?

Several types of short-term therapy have been found effective, each targeting one or more areas of dysfunction. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) helps clients challenge their negative thoughts and beliefs, learn new behavioral strategies, and curb reactivity to distressing situations. Behavioral activation (BA) is a form of therapy often used in conjunction with CBT; it focuses on engagement in rewarding activity as a pathway to changing negative feelings and disturbed mood. Another widely used approach is interpersonal therapy (IPT), which targets the social difficulties that both give rise to and get exacerbated by depression. Therapists may combine approaches as needed.

Can therapy for depression be done online?

Studies have found that online therapy can be highly effective for treating depression, although it may be more challenging to build a good therapist-patient alliance on screen than in person—at least at first. However, online therapy can offer considerable advantages. Accessibility and convenience are tops among them. Some people actually find it easier to talk about problems online than in person. While online therapy typically limits visibility of facial expression and body gestures that give important nonverbal cues to a patient’s state of mind, it can give therapists a glimpse into a patient’s world and life, providing information that can be highly useful in guiding therapy.

How effective is therapy for depression?

Many studies show that therapy is highly effective provided that patients complete the prescribed course of therapy, commonly 16 to 20 sessions. Over the long term, it is more effective than medication and the effects are more enduring. As a result, psychotherapy has the power not just to relieve current suffering but to prevent future episodes of the disorder. Therapy reverses the dysfunction in neural circuitry that disposes individuals to a negative view of themselves, the world, and their future and they acquire coping techniques, problem-solving skills, and understanding of their own vulnerabilities that are useful over the course of a lifetime.
