Using concrete tools, I can help folks manage anxiety , work on healing from past traumas, and forge a new relationship with food and body.
If you're hoping to feel more grounded and connected with yourself and your most important values, perhaps I can help. This might mean working on issues related to anxiety , your relationship with food and your body, and healing from past hurts. Collaborating with sensitive, creative, artistic folks is one of my biggest passions, including fellow therapists and healers.

Welcome. Maybe you're here because of an old, deep current of suffering, branched out in channels, running wild under the surface of things. Or maybe it's more specific - an event long past or currently unraveling. Maybe you feel plagued by a background hum of panic . Maybe there's an old aching wound that just won’t seem to heal. Maybe you're frustrated and trapped in patterns that keep repeating, or feel a chronic unsettledness or emptiness. There's a confusing internal force that blocks your efforts to fully work, or love, or play. And you want something more from life - more capacity, more ease, more joy.

Being human is challenging. Am I enough? Too much? Feelings of anxiety and inadequacy can interfere with one’s ability to connect with the self and others. Personal growth requires integration of the mind, body, and soul. Understanding past wounds, exploring difficult emotions and identifying behavioral patterns are steps to creating more fulfilling relationships and providing relief from pain and hurt in one’s life. With empathy, acceptance, and openness, I aim to be a guide along your path toward self-discovery, authenticity, and belonging. *I am an LGBTQIA+ Kink/Poly Ally, I believe in social justice and racial equity.

Living with anxiety , ruminating thoughts, and a complicated relationship with food isn't easy. It can be all-consuming, leaving you with little energy to focus on anything else. Waking up can be the hardest, when you know you are about to face another day of yearning for control, physical numbness or pain, and endless loops of worried thoughts. Together, we can explore how trauma might influence the way you experience and relate to your body and to food; we can explore the messaging you may have received growing up (or from systemic influences), and the messages you tell yourself now.

I work with individuals who have difficulties with mood, anxiety , mental rumination, and obsessiveness. Although these issues are personal, they also effect one's relationships and the ability to fulfill one's deepest longings. Although symptoms will be addressed, I always place one's struggles in context of the whole person and their relationships past and present. I strive to be authentic as a therapist and create space for you and your unique experiences to emerge in a way that builds trust, honesty, and genuine collaboration.

Often I hear from clients, who have been in talk therapy for many years, that although they cognitively understand their trauma and why symptoms such as anxiety and depression exist, are still struggling.
My approach is rooted in the belief that how we relate to ourselves mirrors how we experience life and develop relationships. Not many of us were taught how to compassionately attend to our painful feelings, critical thoughts, or impulsive behaviors. Instead, we may have been scolded, shamed, or sent away for showing big feelings such as anger or sadness, praised for being self-reliant, or withdrawn from by parents who did not have the capacity to be with our feelings. When we can begin to shift from judgment and avoidance of the parts of ourselves that we may not approve of to curiosity; healing can begin.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
