Therapists for Teens and Adolescents in Cedar Park, Seattle, WA
I have learned almost everything of importance about mental health from working with my patients. Though I consider that I had excellent training, as with many things in life, nothing prepared me for the intensity of my patients' life-stories. It was a trial by immersion, but as with such journeys, it was also one of discovery. Patients set before me stories of grief, longing, despair, addiction, obsession, but also of surprise, joy, and abundance. At times, they were overtaken by the force of events swirling around them, losing their bearings and sense of agency.

I believe that often, our deepest experiences of harm and trauma take place within relationships, and the ways that others relate to us has an enormous impact on the ways we learn to relate to ourselves. My work with clients often centers around exploring and integrating past experiences of harm, and through this, inviting clients to new ways of relating to themselves in the present. I am passionate about helping clients grow in self-awareness, courage, and self-compassion.

Therapy is a space for you to feel heard, validated and supported. It's an approach to feel less anxious, work toward goals, heal from trauma, and improve relationships. It can sometimes feel impossible to find ways to thrive in the capitalistic, oppressive system we're in, especially for marginalized folks. It is my goal for us to find ways for you to feel safe, fulfilled and content.

I believe that the therapeutic relationship is the foundation of meaningful change. As a person-centered therapist, I focus on creating a space where you feel genuinely heard, accepted, and understood.
Many people come to therapy carrying more than a diagnosis. They may be struggling with relationships, life transitions, self-doubt, loss, stress, or simply trying to make sense of their experiences. I view each person as more than a set of symptoms and work to understand the whole person and the unique challenges they face.

Accepting New Clients: Having difficulty finding a therapist of color who understands your experience? I understand your struggle. As an African American male, I too had trouble finding a therapist of my own. Being a person of color in our society comes with its own unique experience, along with the everyday struggles and challenges we all face. It’s difficult and frustrating to have to explain this unique experience to someone before you can even address your reason for being there. But you continue searching because you know you need someone who understands your experience and can help you with life’s struggles.

I bring over a decade of experience to Sea and Create Therapy working as an educator, creator, and facilitator with families and teens.
Conflict, stress, and differences in communication styles can make it difficult to connect with loved ones. When life constantly pulls you away from your partner, relationship issues can feel unsolvable and overwhelming. It can be easy for mental health and relationships to take second place to responsibilities. This is not uncommon in our modern world, and that doesn’t make it any less difficult. If you find yourself here, there is hope.
Building positive changes in relationships takes time effort and time. Marriage and Family Therapy can provide a space to foster change, learn, break unhelpful patterns, and take action.

My client population may have had traumatic experiences at some point in their life, and they may notice the impact of those stressful memories either derived from their early childhood or recent events. Many people think trauma can be gotten over, but in many cases, our clients have to live with it. If they want to learn to not only survive but to thrive under the stressful past, I would love to empower them and assist them in safely addressing memories. It is also imperative to increase self-awareness and re-establish goals and interests, so as to know that life is still hopeful.

FAQ - Teenage and Adolescent Therapists
What does therapy for teenagers look like?
When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.
How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?
There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.
How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.
How do you prepare teens for therapy?
You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
