Healing happens when we are able to connect and feel truly seen by another human being. I believe in the power of the therapeutic relationship as a mechanism for healing. It is my aim to co-create a safe, compassionate, and non-judgmental space where you can reflect, grow, gain insight, challenge ideas, and come to know who you are in a deep and meaningful way. I work with individuals navigating relationships, life transitions, anxiety , self-doubt, identity development and purpose. I work with anyone looking for support while struggling with being human in this sometimes scary, exhausting and overwhelming world.

I work with adults, young professionals and college students experiencing symptoms of anxiety , depression, mood and co-occurring disorders.
Have you ever heard the phrase “it’ll be better in the morning”? Despite our best intentions to feel refreshed and wake up with a new outlook, sometimes we find ourselves dragging through our days. Maybe you’re feeling stuck at work or school? Maybe you’re feeling dependent on a substance to get you through? I’m here to offer a strength-based approach that will get you started on a path towards clarity and lightness. Together we can identify what is already helping you get through today, so that tomorrow feels a little easier.

I enjoy working with people who are motivated to understand their depression, anxiety or unhappiness so that they can experience relief and freedom in their lives. We will explore your thoughts, feelings and behaviors and your experience in the world, especially in your relationships, so that you can understand yourself better and begin to make the changes you desire. One of my strengths as a therapist of 30 years is that I help people get to the heart of the matter quickly so they can understand the source of their distress and begin to feel better and move forward.

I have extensive experience working with depression, anxiety , bereavement, trauma, relational difficulties, problems with school or work, and identity issues.
I view psychotherapy as a collaborative process in which we work together to make sense of the problems that have brought you in, and work towards mutually established goals. Psychotherapy involves verbalizing your thoughts and feelings, exploring relational and behavioral patterns, and learning how past experiences may impact you now. Through this process we strive to gain greater awareness of how both conscious and unconscious processes play out in your emotional, intellectual and relational life. Ultimately, therapy can help individuals come to better understand themselves and exercise greater choice in their lives.

I work with teens and adults who are experiencing anxiety or depression; struggling with school, work, or relationships; and exploring issues of self esteem or identity.
Sometimes we struggle to express what we need or want out of life. Other times we may feel that we are not living up to expectations. We can get stuck in a loop of our negative thoughts and fears . Building a trusting relationship with a counselor can help you step out of these patterns and bring meaning to your struggles. I really want to know what it’s like to be you; not only your inner life but also how you belong in the world around you. Together we will explore the things that are important to you and move toward the change that you are looking for.

NOTE: Now offering clinical supervision! Sometimes life happens and it doesn't feel great. Symptoms of anxiety , depression, trauma, or grief might take over, and what used to feel okay begins to feel out of control. If you feel overwhelmed, confused, alone, or isolated in your thoughts or feelings, seeking counseling is a courageous and kind step towards groundedness, relief, and ultimately healing.

I help people develop resources to work more mindfully with impermanence. Aging, illness, death, identity transitions, relationships – all bring us face to face with fear, anxiety , and insecurity. The courage and wisdom to live through change and loss become possible with a clear, steady commitment to loving oneself and others. I work with my clients to become curious, have a sense of humor, feel grace, cultivate friendships, and embody kindness in order to access joy in the everyday moments of life, even with life's many challenges.

Do you feel like you're maintaining or surviving, rather than thriving? Maybe you're not sure what the next step is, but you know you want to feel less stress, anxiety , and fear and more peace, joy, and confidence. I believe that many distressing feelings are often responses to a world that tries to tell us who we are and who we should be, through inherited belief systems, culture, relationships, experiences of trauma, and systems of oppression. I love working w/ people to reveal what those stories are, the meanings you've held in them, and how to discover and make space for the self inside you that felt small, boxed in, or stuck.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
