Relationships can be hard, especially the
parenting
one. My style of therapy is based on the latest research in how the brain (neuroscience geek!), body, and emotions work together. For 20 years, I've partnered with individuals and couples, facilitating thriving relationships:
parent
-child, partners, co-
parenting
couples, divorcing couples. The most important relationship is the one we have with ourselves. I can help you explore relational wounds and teach you new skills to experience more satisfying relationships. Let's talk and see if we're a good fit.

I work alongside couples who are either in distress or are starting to feel the distance and conflict between them overshadowing the good. So many partnerships and marriages are worn down by stress and conflict around work/life/family balancing, sexual differences,
parenting
, in-laws, faith differences, and all the ways we don’t show up for each other as anticipated. I create a safe place and ample time for you to share what you need, hope for, miss, and crave in your relationship. We will work through hard topics, recurring struggles, and old hurts in ways that will help you each feel seen, heard, and understood.

Perhaps a
parent
/spouse second guessed your choices, gives w/strings attached, uses guilt as pressure, behaves unpredictably, creates drama, gaslights to take away your agency and confidence in self.
Seeking therapy can be a daunting process, while also being one step toward greater wholeness/healing. Relationship is where we are both wounded and healed. I work with individuals seeking relief from distressing symptoms such as; demanding too much of yourself, finding it hard to trust self, your experience, your mind, self-soothing through addictive behaviors, pleasing others at your own expense, anxiety, depression, PTSD. Our patterns of relating develop early within our first attachments, so our journey might include visiting some of those relationships to wonder how they impact you in the here and now.

I am experienced in providing evidence-based approaches, including CBT, DBT and
parent
-child coaching with Incredible Years (IY).
I am continually inspired by the depth and breadth of the human experience. I have a passion for learning the internal and external workings of individuals, groups and systems across varied backgrounds. Along with constant learning, I seek to support individuals in being heard, understood and empowered. It is these core values that led me toward a bachelor’s degree in language studies, and later, to a master’s degree in social work. These two degrees allow me to consider carefully the emotional experience of an individual, while accounting for the unique ways in which we express, perceive and develop meaning.

I specialize in providing counseling services to children aged 3-12 & their families. Childhood is an extraordinary time of growth and change, and often it can be hard to know when extra support may be needed. Many times, the first step is in supporting parents in understanding the current challenge. I strive to witness each child/family uniquely while building a safe therapeutic relationship. My approach to therapy is warm, creative, and playful. I view caregivers as an important part of the treatment process and carve out space to meet with them routinely. With kids I use a variety of play and art therapy techniques. Infants and very young children are seen with their caregivers. With adult adoptees I help to recognize old patterns, gain awareness about internal conflicts, tolerate and overcome the threat of change, and awaken to new and more satisfying possibilities for thinking, relating and living. EMDR and/or Somatic techniques for trauma. Safe and Sound Protocol is a service I offer.

Parenting Therapists
What does therapy for parenting look like?
Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.
When should a parent seek therapy?
When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.
How long does therapy take for parenting problems?
Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.
Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?
Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
