My own life challenges, including issues related to fertility, postpartum and parenthood, have deepened and strengthened my belief in the power of self-compassion, mindfulness and empathy.
We all struggle from time to time, it's part of being human. While we often wish our difficult feelings would just go away, these periods of struggle can be an invitation for growth. Therapy will help you get through a difficult time and as you do you will gain the knowledge and tools necessary to make lasting positive change in your life. I help individual clients who feel stuck or dissatisfied with some aspect of their life increase self-awareness and self-compassion and decrease unwanted symptoms such as anxiety, depression and negative thoughts. www.nancycasecounseling.com

However, I also draw from mindfulness approaches and cognitive behavioral therapy, as well as body-centered counseling and focusing.
I offer an integrative approach to individuals and couples seeking solutions and insight into their life challenges. We will work together using a variety of evidence-based practices: emotionally focused therapy, the developmental model of couples therapy, mindfulness practices, polyvagal theory, the Incredible Years parenting program, focusing (somatic therapy) and cognitive behavioral therapy.
Relationships can be hard, especially the parenting one. My style of therapy is based on the latest research in how the brain (neuroscience geek!), body, and emotions work together. For 20 years, I've partnered with individuals and couples, facilitating thriving relationships: parent-child, partners, co-parenting couples, divorcing couples. The most important relationship is the one we have with ourselves. I can help you explore relational wounds and teach you new skills to experience more satisfying relationships. Let's talk and see if we're a good fit.

I know firsthand the power of mindfulness practice and body-centered techniques as a way to work through overwhelming emotions and life experiences.
As both a therapist and yoga teacher, I believe we have the capacity to access our own inner knowing and sense of awareness. Sometimes we just need some redirection about how to get there. I believe in a compassionate approach to therapy, which expands resiliency, encourages self-agency, and invites discovery.

I have a collaborative approach to counseling where I work with clients to help them identify areas for change and to make changes by setting specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and time-sensitive goals. To do this, I incorporate evidence-based treatments, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, mindfulness meditation, and other modalities. Generally, this involves changing or adjusting our relationship to our thoughts and changing behaviors that negatively impact our functioning and get in the way of us living meaningful lives based on our values and what is important to us.

I use Emotionally focused, Somatic & Mindfulness to support women in processing grief, anxiety and unprocessed emotions that may be showing up in your daily habits and routines.
I help therapists, and other givers experiencing burnout, anxiety, or overwhelm make a slight shift in awareness that creates a big difference in problem solving. This shift helps challenge some of our assumptions about a hurt, allowing us to look at pain from a different angle. I use reflective inquiry, somatic approach and mindfulness to explore and move out of unhelpful patterns of thinking and responding. We can collaborate together to find meaning around a setback that helps illuminate effective solutions. Lets work together to find the habits that bring healing and growth in your relationship with yourself and others.

I introduce you to mindfulness practices and share tools that you can use in your day so that you can feel better.
Do you feel like your wildness has been buried? Like your conditioning and the patriarchy have left you listless and disconnected from yourself? Maybe you used to feel a lot more like you, more connected, more whole, more spiritual, and you aren't sure how to get back there. Together we unpack where you are and how you got there. At the same time, we tap into your own knowing, and we implement practical skills to support your homecoming.

My approach integrates mindfulness -based stress reduction, narrative therapy, compassion focused therapy, nature therapy, somatic therapy, and third wave behavioral therapies such as ACT.
It is my goal to foster psychological flexibility, personal accountability, congruence, and access to life force energy for the people that I am serving. It is not my agenda to change people or their experiences of life but rather to increase their capacity to have a full range of experience. It is my hope that ultimately when people gain a bird's eye perspective of themselves that they will rest in self compassion for themselves and ultimately be free to be their authentic selves and recognize their wholeness. By weaving curiosity, openness, acceptance and love into the therapeutic process we can begin healing.

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Therapists

How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.

When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behavior through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviors and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.

Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioral habits.
