I believe in healing the whole person. There are many factors that shape who we are and affect our understanding of ourselves and our environment. I believe in working with my client to work through these factors to reach true acceptance of one self. My specialties include Depression, Anxiety, Relationship Issues and Codependency . We are all unique, in our personalities and in the way we process our emotions and environment. Therefore, I focus on building unique relationships with my clients to work towards self-acceptance, self-love, and self-worth.

You don't feel like yourself anymore... whoever that may be. It's time to find help that will really move you out of this stuck place.

Many of us learned at a young age that it is safer to be compliant or avoidant rather than trust our authentic selves. I enjoy helping clients connect with their inner wisdom and create authentic intimacy and connection in their lives. This way of connecting is not something that comes naturally to many of us and takes practice. I enjoy creating a space where clients can feel safe tuning into their body and learn to trust themselves.

Often my clients are experiencing anxiety, depression, and/or grief and are looking to improve their quality of life. I specialize in working among the polyamorous community. I also have personal experience in the tech/corporate world so am acutely familiar with the challenges that accompany that work environment - especially those faced by folks whose identities are underrepresented. The decision to pursue therapy is a difficult one and I congratulate you on beginning your search to find the therapist that is right for you. My approach to therapy is based on the belief that each person has an innate ability to achieve healing and personal growth. I believe each existence is unique, and because of our experiences, the impact of society, and the ways in which our environments contribute to shaping who we are, we all walk through the world differently. By creating a safe space where you can be yourself, I will meet you where you are.

Over the past six years, it has been such a pleasure walking with my clients through their journeys of healing and change. I have had the privilege of sitting with parents struggling through the heartache of divorce, immigrants and children of immigrants who are making a home against all odds, college students fighting dominant culture norms, survivors of marital abuse, and those fighting to escape their childhood trauma. Before becoming a therapist, I worked in education and non-profits in India, and I am astounded, then and now, by the human capacity for resilience and strength in the face of hardship.

I practice body-centered counseling. I will help you to increase your body awareness, learn how to read your inner responses, and make use of them. Your body is an amazing guide - tuning into it more deeply can help you find your direction through specific challenges and also your direction in life. To be present in your body is to be present in your life. Since my twenties I have sought out therapy, bodywork, and other healing modalities. One result of my own therapy is that it is easier to be me. With time and healing, you may find that it is easier to be you. I would like to help.

"The Glory of God is a human being fully alive". Saint Irenaeus As a clinician, I work with individuals struggling with a variety of issues including relationships, anxiety, depression, addiction, food/body/movement issues, anger, and grief. More often than not, all of these mental health struggles are actually indicators of a deeper issue. They are just symptoms that we will work diligently to understand and "grow up" as we see their purpose and function in your life and relationships. If you are continually fighting the same battle against a part of yourself, come and see me!

Codependency Therapists

What therapy types help with codependency problems?

Both couples and family therapy and cognitive and behavioral therapy (CBT) can help with the relationship difficulties referred to as codependency. Such problems typically include inappropriate feelings of responsibility for a loved one’s destructive behavior, irrational patterns of thinking about such behavior, and family interaction patterns in which the needs of one troubled member override the needs of others in a household.

What happens in therapy for codependency?

Spouses and family members learn and practice how to interact and support each other in a healthy way without sacrificing their own needs or well-being. They learn the limits of their responsibility for their loved ones and correct faulty patterns of thinking and feeling that underlie codependent behavior. Individuals may be encouraged to nurture an array of social relationships and to cultivate their own talents and interests so that they develop a healthy sense of self outside the family.

How does therapy help a person or couple overcome codependency?

Therapy helps people establish healthy ways of being in a relationship. Spouses and family members learn how to nurture and support one another without sacrificing their own needs or allowing the needs of one person to dominate the dynamic. Individuals learn how to say no and set boundaries, and how to maintain their own identity and self-esteem. Therapy helps people understand that they are not responsible for the feelings and actions of others. It also helps individuals deal with the turbulence that can come from living with a person suffering from such conditions as substance abuse and mental illness.

What is the goal of therapy for codependency?

One goal of therapy for codependency is to alleviate feelings of responsibility for and correct irrational patterns of thinking about loved ones whose behavioral problems override the needs of others in a household. Therapy helps people establish healthy boundaries of behavior and speak up for their own needs in a relationship. In addition, people learn how to maintain a healthy relationship, one in which both parties give and receive equally and are able to retain their own identity.
