Life is a mixture of pleasant and unpleasant experiences. While most of us would prefer to be happy and pain-free all the time, unpleasant emotions, such as sadness, anxiety , stress, anger, and guilt are all part of the human experience. Sometimes we get “hooked” on these thoughts or emotions and they prevent us from living our lives to the fullest. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) can change our relationship with unpleasant thoughts, physical sensations, or emotions so they have less of an impact on our daily lives and do not prevent us from doing the things that matter most.

My specialty lies in working with teens (13+) and adults struggling with body image, eating disorders, depression, anxiety , perfectionism, life adjustments, and healing from trauma and burnout.
Many people seek therapy when they feel disconnected from themselves, their story, their body, or their community. As a therapist, I understand that being human can be complex, challenging, and even messy. However, it can also be beautiful and delightful, especially when on a healing journey. My goal as a therapist is to help my clients connect with their innate ability to heal and grow. I believe that my clients are the experts in their own lives and experiences, and my role is to support and empower them throughout the process.

Our work will also help you understand yourself more completely in the context of your own life story--the different forces inside and around you that have shaped the decisions, desires, fears and disappointments you grapple with today.
I specialize in working clinically with adolescents and their families as they navigate difficult and overwhelming experiences, relationships, or transitions. I also enjoy working with individual adults and couples who need a safe and honest place to reimagine what life can be. While our work can include clinical assessment and specific treatment goals, you are likely interested in therapy for more personal reasons. Perhaps your life has become dominated by loneliness, confusion, broken relationships, unmanageable anger or deep sadness. Perhaps you feel completely stuck. Your priorities and needs will guide our work together.

I use Emotionally focused, Somatic & Mindfulness to support women in processing grief, anxiety and unprocessed emotions that may be showing up in your daily habits and routines.
I help women who are entrepreneurs/givers who struggle with co-dependency and an over developed sense of responsibility for others. Codependency is often linked to fear which influences how we speak and respond to business and personal decisions. I use reflective inquiry, somatic approach and mindfulness to explore and move out of anxiety and fear informed thinking and responding. We can collaborate to bring hurting parts to awareness and illuminate effective solutions. Lets work together to find the habits and words that develop self trust and growth in your relationship with yourself and your work.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
