Since my first entry level mental health job in 1998, I have been seeking to learn how to help people in the most effective, therapeutic way toward their goals for increased mental health. I completed my masters degree in Counseling Psychology in 2000 and have been a licensed counselor since 2004 working with adults in outpatient mental health care. I took a few years off to be a stay at home mom and have 17 years experience working as a therapist.

Therapy is a time of challenge and change, sorrow and celebration. I strive to provide a climate in which my clients can truly explore themselves and their world. Regardless of technique, I believe that the greatest strength in treatment lies in a meaningful relationship between client and therapist.

Hey, welcome to my little portal. The people I work best with experience daily struggles related to C-PTSD/Complex Trauma, neurodivergence, anxiety disorders, depressive disorders, dissociative disorders, emotional challenges and relationship issues. They're often navigating the effects of marginalization and oppression, for themselves and intergenerationally. We work toward processing those experiences while gaining tools, self-knowledge, and understanding along the way. Together we tailor this process to suit you and your needs, help you find safety and strength, and make supported changes toward your goals.

We can see our symptoms as the language our soul is using to communicate where we are ready and needing to heal, integrate, and find balance. And we all have experienced trauma in one form or another that has led towards protective but misaligned habits and negative ways of relating to ourselves and the world. I enjoy creating a supportive space where I help you to unlearn what no longer serves you, reconnect with your most authentic self, and rediscover love and safety within your body. (Strictly offering TeleHealth/zoom therapy as I have moved out of state)

Life can throw numerous curve balls, and sometimes we need to expand our support system to persevere and carry on. Reaching out to meet with a counselor is not a sign of weakness, but rather shows bravery and a willingness for growth and change. When an individual makes the decision to enter counseling, it can be an intimidating choice during an already difficult time. It’s not always easy to be open and vulnerable with a counselor. I recognize the courage it takes and approach the therapist-client relationship as a collaborative experience throughout the process. We will work together as a team.

My name is Jo (Jordan) and I am a licensed mental health counselor associate (LMHCA) in the state of Washington. I aim to join with clients to use evidence-based interventions that allow them to overcome the perspectives and issues that don't serve them- especially those that stem from big and small traumas that create distress in our daily lives. The modalities I use are approached from a strengths-based lens, though I primarily work with clients who are interested in EMDR Therapy. It's often disheartening to know that trauma changes the brain, but healing changes it too and brings you back to YOU!

Therapy is a place for yourself or your loved one to take time to build self-care, self-reflection, insight and skills to manage the symptoms they are experiencing. Many adults and youth experience symptoms of depression, anxiety or are overcoming issues of past trauma that plays in to their ability to go about life. Sometimes relationships, school or work are harder to navigate, build or maintain. Sometimes self-esteem and self-worth can interfere with our abilities to experience healthy relationships whether that is with friends, peers or family members. Coming to therapy can help you build skills to navigate these hardships.

Female Therapists
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
