I tend to draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance Commitment Therapy ( ACT) to help clients better understand how their thoughts, behaviors, values, and actions influence their well-being.
Sessions with me are warm, honest, and grounded. I ask thoughtful questions, make space for real emotion, and bring humor when it helps. My goal is to create a place where you feel safe, understood, and able to show up exactly as you are without judgment. As a Washington-licensed therapist, I support clients online from Seattle to Spokane and everywhere in between. I accept both insurance and private pay options to make your care accessible. Reach out today to schedule an appointment.

I am currently accepting insurance clients (Aetna, Providence, Premera Blue Cross, Carelon) and sliding-scale private pay. You’re capable — maybe even the person others lean on. But privately, you're exhausted. You feel stuck. You push through, manage, and perform. And then the cost shows up — in your body, your moods, your relationships, your sense of self. You want to feel solid in yourself — grounded in your own power. If that sounds familiar, you may simply have never had a space that was entirely yours — where you didn't have to hold everything together. Where real, no-kidding tools help.

Something happens when we sit across from someone who really sees us, hears us, and accepts us unconditionally. The relationship has the power to lift us up, shift our perspective, and bring us comfort and clarity. I'd be honored to sit across from you with the warmth, humor, compassion and skill that will support the healing and growth you are seeking. You should know that I believe in you, I will challenge you, and we will process everything together until you realize, heal, and remember the strength you have to live the life you want for yourself.

You think fast, feel deeply, and hold a lot. From the outside, you seem steady and functioning. On the inside? You're scanning every emotion in the room, running 12 open tabs at once: other people’s feelings, systems, outcomes, and unspoken needs. You’re the go-to for problem-solving. But your own burnout or emotional overwhelm isn’t something you can think your way out of. I work with deep processors stuck in overdrive—people who are perceptive, layered, and often wondering if they’re “too much.” Together, we listen for what’s underneath and start shifting the patterns keeping you stuck.

I find people are far more capable and resilient than they realize. My approach to therapy is collaborative, eclectic and person-centered. Whether the challenge stems from anxiety, depression, trauma or conflict within your relationship, skills can be learned to navigate your life circumstance. Relationships make up the core of who we are as human beings and effort is needed to learn skills to communicate, have healthier conflict resolution or restructure a relationship to fit our needs (with others and self).

Most people think you’re doing fine. You go to work and move through your day, but no one can see how much you’re struggling inside. You may feel depressed, anxious, or completely worn down. Some days all you want to do is sleep or shut the world out. The self-criticism and doubt can feel constant. You may want to reach out for help, yet part of you feels guilty for needing support. After putting everyone else first for so long, you may have lost connection with yourself. Deep down, you want to feel worthy again, like you belong, and like you have something meaningful to offer the world.

Therapy is a vulnerable process, and my goal is to meet clients where they’re at and work with them in a warm, engaging, and direct manner. I work with clients collaboratively, seeing you as the expert of your own life and me as a third party to help see patterns, ask questions, and hold difficult things with you. My goal is to see holistic change for each client. I work from a systems perspective, meaning I incorporate the way your family, friends, community, work, etc. affect who you are. With this knowledge, we can build healthy frameworks and relationships.

Life is full of challenges, but you don't have to stay stuck in suffering. Maybe anxiety has taken over your life, childhood experiences still shape how you feel, or chronic stress has left you exhausted and disconnected from yourself. You may be navigating a major life change or simply wondering why you no longer feel like yourself. While suffering is part of being human, it doesn't have to define your life. Therapy can help you heal, reconnect with yourself, and build a life with greater peace, resilience, and fulfillment.

I am John Kopp, and it is a pleasure to meet you. Living as a human being is inherently difficult. Pain, change, and loss are guaranteed. When you add the slings and arrows of trauma to the baseline difficulty of being alive, it makes sense that you are looking for help. Nothing about your reaction is wrong. My clients are adults working through trauma, grief, depression, and the weight of experiences that would have broken anyone. You do not need to justify why you are here. You need a space to tell the truth about what has happened, with someone who is not going to flinch.

While I work with the seeds of several approaches to bring significant, meaningful, and personalized healing and growth to even the most stuck souls, our journey together will be rooted in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, which is an evidence-based and empowering approach that involves mindfully accepting thoughts and feelings while committing to values-aligned action.
Are you a midlife mom who is struggling with overwhelm and anxiety? You’re not alone if you’ve spent years pouring yourself into the loving care of others, only to find yourself lost and depleted in caregiver burnout. You’ve been buffering and co-regulating the emotions of your loved ones to the point that it feels like your own nervous system is collapsing under the weight. You’ve been over-functioning in support of a fulfilling life for your family that feels like it has no space for you.

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Therapists
How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.

What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?
The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.

Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?
Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.

How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?
A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
