I have specialized training in trauma, PTSD and grief / loss issues.
Sometimes things happen in our lives that we can't seem to get over, no matter how much we try. This really affects the quality of life, and is called trauma. I specialize in treating trauma and grief issues using EMDR therapy. I am trained to treat PTSD, complex PTSD, and dissociation. My second specialization is as a trained grief counselor. I can help you get out of your head and back into your life. My clients are motivated, willing to try new things, and they want to feel better. I've helped hundreds of others meet these goals, and I can help you. Clients who take that first step to come see me get results. Let's get started!

For over 16 years I have worked with people experiencing grief due to the death of a loved one (or not so loved one), divorce, incarceration, pregnancy loss and any of the more than 40 life events that can cause grief .
It’s so hard to go anywhere and do anything because everyone is walking around like life is normal. Your life feels like it’s in pieces. If you were walking around with a broken leg, everyone would notice. But your heart is broken, and no one seems to care. You look at your self in the mirror and don’t even recognize who you are anymore. It doesn’t feel like things will ever get better. You know you can’t keep going like this anymore.

I believe the power to change, grow, and overcome obstacles lies within each one of us. Sometimes, for many different reasons, we need additional support to identify, and build on the strengths we have within us to accomplish what we want. I have 16 years of experience using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to support clients as they accomplish their goals and overcome life stressors, depression, anxiety, grief and trauma.

It is my passion to work with individuals and couples who are struggling with the loss of emotional connection with the most significant people in their lives.
Many couples want to communicate better, and at the core, partners want to feel emotionally connected to each other. Oftentimes, the negative interaction cycles of blame-withdraw, attack-defend, demand-withdraw are actually the indicators for the loss of emotional disconnection between partners. By identifying the cycle, couples can become more open to and engaged with each other, can create new emotionally attuned connections, and can revitalize their relationship. Attention to the couples sexual relationship is interwoven throughout the couples therapy. Visit my website to connect with me more.

Psychotherapy may be helpful if you feel depressed, anxious, restless or fearful, you struggle to feel happy, your relationship with your spouse/significant other feels hopeless, you are sad because of a loss , and/or you have a secret, a thought, or a behavior that is causing you or a loved one grief or distraction.
A central focus of my theory and practice is to help my patients recover a sense of freedom and choice in relationship to others and to the self. Being able to live fully, in spite of your circumstances, is possible. The work we do together will be to explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences to discover what kind of life you wish to have, and what has prevented you from living fully, whether it be unrecovered/unresolved loss , trauma, or wounds that won't heal.

Understanding your needs and motivations, solving communication issues, boundary setting and assertiveness training, conflict resolution, anger management, grief and loss care, and (co-)parenting skills can make your relationships happier.
You don’t have to be sick to be Building Healthier Relationships (BHR). BHR is about developing a better toolbox to enhance relationships with yourself and others, and to provide a safe, nurturing environment for learning and healing. Life isn’t just a bowl of cherries—it also includes the PITs. In life, the PITs (Prevention, Intervention, and Treatment) provide the seeds for future cherries. While we are all victims at times, healing starts with moving from a victim mentality of blaming others to the survivor mentality of taking responsibility—not for what happened in the past, but for how to go forward.

I specialize in working with adults , with a focus on depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress, grief , relationship conflict and emotion regulation.
You must master a new way to think before you can master a new way to be; Maryanne Williamson. To create lasting change at the level of thought requires an acknowledgment and understanding of how the nervous system states influence our brain states and drive our responses to life and to ourselves. I work to help my clients find emotional and spiritual wellness through learning how to manage and navigate the emotional challenges in life. I do this through understanding and working with the nervous system and the body as well as building awareness and challenging thoughts and deeper core beliefs.

**CURRENTLY HAVE A WAITLIST OF 9 PEOPLE AS OF 11/30/2022** Trying to focus on one task at a time can be challenging and sometimes boring. Emotions then take over and you find ways to release that tension in a negative way. During this time, it can cause conflict between family members, peers, and/or significant others. These negative thoughts/actions are easy to express and obvious strengths are pushed to the side. Having someone who has gone through this personally/professionally can provide active solutions, which can help develop a sense of ease and comfort within the family and individual.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
