It's important to account for systems of oppression and how culture, spirituality , and lived experiences, influence one's life.
Currently screening for "Real Solutions for Managing Anger" men's group! Each moment there is the opportunity to find a new strength in yourself. Your goals may be undefined, feel too far to reach, or may not even be on your mind. That is alright. What matters is that you are here, looking for support, understanding, empathy, or whatever else may alleviate your pain. You are not your mental health issues. You are complex, unique, and strong. Life is like a roller coaster of experiences and emotions, and sometimes, we need support with all the chaos.

But these relationships can become broken and cause us pain. Relationships take time, effort, careful handling and real love. The good news is relationships can heal, and there's help to get you there. As a marriage and family therapist, I most enjoy helping couples and families navigate life's challenges through learning new skills to get to the relationships they desire.

You can succeed in life especially in love, marriage, and family! Even though you may be experiencing great pain because of personal trauma and/or relationship conflicts, you can turn things around. However, you may need assistance from a trained, compassionate professional to help you, either as an individual or with your loved ones, to restore trust, friendship, joy, and deep love.

From early childhood, we are surrounded by expectations - from family, friends, culture, society.  We internalize those expectations and experience their impact on our health, career, finances, relationships. Sometimes it manifests as perfectionism or Imposter Syndrome…sometimes as anxiety, grief, depression and stress.  In the effort to please everyone, we are often left exhausted, defeated, feeling like a failure. So maybe it’s time to rewrite that script imposed upon you…or the one that you imposed upon yourself.

People come to RCC to improve their mental health, increase life satisfaction, and gain self-awareness. The human experience is a complicated one and most of us, at one time or another have found ourselves overwhelmed. When we respond to life's struggles in ways less than successful, we may experience depression, anxiety, or other symptoms. Psychotherapy along with medication is an effective treatment for the relief of these and many other psychological symptoms.

Therapy can be intimidating and may bring up many different emotions, feelings, and thoughts. Each of these unique responses to our own individual experiences are what make the process of therapy so special. I value building a connection and safety in the therapeutic relationship between client and therapist to be one of the most valuable tenets in the therapeutic relationship. I believe in creating a nonjudgmental space in which I can encourage deconstructing harmful internalized messages, processing experiences of attachment and trauma, exploring identity, and managing relational and personal challenges.

I help teens and adults individually, and in groups, work through challenges related to anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship challenges, personal growth/balance and life transitions. Rather than seeing you as a diagnosis, I view your mental health on a spectrum of normal behavior; it's often the case you move into imbalance because of overwhelming and difficult circumstances. Within a therapeutic environment that's unique to you, my intention is to support your natural resilience become your potential wellness.

Spirituality Therapists

What should I expect from therapy that incorporates a focus on spirituality?

Spirituality can mean different things to different individuals, depending on their experiences, beliefs, and life histories. Some individuals focus on strengthening their belief system, while others experience spirituality in secular ways, such as through meditation, yoga, or by spending time in nature. Clients can expect a therapist to help guide and grow their spirituality through any of these techniques, encouraging the individual to cope with the challenges they face and develop strategies to build resilience and purpose to improve their outlook in life.

What are the most common treatments that include spirituality?

There are several treatments that incorporate spirituality. Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) helps a person examine and reframe their negative thoughts and behaviors. Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) focuses on emotional acceptance and psychological flexibility. Existential therapy is most often used to address anxiety, depression, grief, loneliness, apathy, despair, questions of identity, and feelings of purposelessness and existential dread. Transpersonal therapy focuses on a client’s spirituality and meaning in life and may incorporate techniques including meditation, visualization, hypnotherapy, dream analysis, and or breathwork.

Can therapy incorporating spirituality help atheistic or agnostic individuals?

Yes. For non-believers, spirituality can offer benefits including a greater sense of connection to others and to the natural world. An interest in spirituality may also spur individuals to pursue mindfulness practices, or to contemplate their purpose in life and how to achieve it.

How effective is spirituality as a therapeutic remedy?

Research suggests spirituality is generally beneficial for individuals. It is correlated with better health habits, such as less substance use, and an improved capacity to cope with stress and other mental health challenges. Increased spirituality can lead individuals to become more empathic and less materialistic, as well.
