I have worked within the mental health field since 2013 in different positions, institutions, and with a variety of issues; including: anxiety , depression, emotional regulation, peer relationships, low self-esteem, adjustment difficulties, family conflict, and more.
I believe that everyone has their own unique story that is worthy of being told. Some stories hurt more than others and I aim to offer a non-judgmental, safe environment for all who seek my services.

I believe we are all capable of building a meaningful life if we have the right tools and support. I enjoy working with motivated adults who are seeking to learn effective ways to cope with difficult emotions and stressors. I predominantly support clients with mood and anxiety conditions as well as those who are interested in personal growth and improving their quality of life. Through the use of practical cognitive and behavioral skills, I help clients improve their self-awareness, navigate unwanted thoughts and feelings, change unhelpful behaviors, and make progress toward life goals.

I work with adults dealing with unhappy relationships, problems in communication, anxiety and depression. I love working with couples and frequently use the principles found in Gary Chapman's book: "The 5 love languages". It is important to note I am not a Christian counselor, I simply teach the communication aspects of this book. I am a preferred provider with Premera Blue Cross, Regence Blue Cross, First Choice Health Network, LifeWise and HMA. If you happen to have other insurance, I can bill them using your out of network benefits. I do not accept Medicaid or Medicare.

Do you find yourself gripped by anxiety and worry, no matter what you do? You’ve accomplished a lot in life, but don’t feel the sense of fulfillment you expected. A big life change—maybe a breakup, new job, new relationship, loss of a loved one, or change in family relationships—has highlighted the fact that you’re still not as happy or confident as you want to be. Something is telling you that you need to make a shift (even if you’re not quite sure what it is). You want to gain deeper insight into yourself & your past experiences, and you’re ready to change your “default setting” and start creating new patterns in your life.

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with experience working with teenagers, adults, families, and couples with issues such as trauma, grief, cultural issues, depression, anxiety , parenting, conflict resolution, communication issues, and attachment issues.
Therapy offered in English and Spanish. Trauma leaves us feeling broken, damaged, and disconnected from our true selves. You may be fed up with feeling triggered in everyday situations, isolated from friends, or guilt over what happened to you. You don't have to do it alone! Therapy is not a sign of weakness, it's a sign of strength. It takes courage to confront our issues and work towards healing. I provide a safe space for you to be vulnerable with no judgement and for you to work through these issues in a collaborative environment where you will be heard, validated and feel active in the process.

Areas of expertise include disordered eating, poor body image and low self-esteem, anxiety , OCD, depression, self-harm behaviors and suicidal ideation.
I believe therapy should be a safe and non-judgmental space with a healthy mix of feeling your feelings, accountability, education and humor. My approach is to serve as a partner and guide on your journey to explore and sort the helpful vs. unhelpful in your life. Sometimes this journey will be tearful and uncomfortable, and sometimes we will laugh together at my many metaphors. I am most passionate about working with individuals who feel like they are “not good enough,” worry about living up to others’ expectations or struggle sometimes to get out of bed because their sadness is overwhelming.

No matter what we call it, psychotherapy, counseling, or talk therapy – therapy can benefit people with emotional difficulties and life's challenges. You may be noticing that you are struggling with the stress and anxiety that life brings. You also may see changes in your mood, motivation, and self-worth because of it. Naturally, that may spill over into your work, personal relationships, and family relationships. You may also resort to unhealthy behaviors like substances, food, video games, etc. just to feel better, or not feel at all, only for a short while. You are not alone in how you are feeling, and there is also room for you to grow and heal to be your best and healthy self. You deserve better, and I can help you get to a place where you start to give yourself better.

Hello, I am a Clinical Psychologist and have been practicing for 28 years. I believe healing comes through interpersonal connectedness by developing a relationship based on trust, mutual respect, and unconditional positive regard. For 24 years, I provided mental health services to incarcerated men and women experiencing depression, anxiety , trauma-related concerns, and psychosis, to name a few. I served others with serious mental health concerns facing their darkest moments and was humbled to walk with them on their journey, sharing their triumphs and disappointments. In addition, I teach and supervise clinicians providing therapy.

From early childhood, we are surrounded by expectations - from family, friends, culture, society.  We internalize those expectations and experience their impact on our health, career, finances, relationships. Sometimes it manifests as perfectionism or Imposter Syndrome…sometimes as anxiety , grief, depression and stress.  In the effort to please everyone, we are often left exhausted, defeated, feeling like a failure. So maybe it’s time to rewrite that script imposed upon you…or the one that you imposed upon yourself.

Since 1998, I have been working with individuals, couples, and families and treating issues related to: depression, anxiety , communication problems, interpersonal conflict, trauma recovery, military deployment, abortion recovery, adult children of divorced parents, pre-marital counseling, multi-cultural marriage and many other identity/spiritual crises. I see clients on the brink of divorce rediscover their passion for each other, clients merely surviving with depression/ anxiety start truly living again, and clients going through the motions find purpose, meaning and fulfillment in their relationships, in their careers and in their lives. Often 10-14 sessions can lead to significant and lasting change.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
