I believe it is one's responsibility to provide care that is informed by current research and ethical guidelines. Children exist within a family system, which in turn exists within several larger systems. As such, I take into account micro and macro influences. In addition to a scientist-practitioner approach, I believe that a sense of empathy, of wanting to hear a family's story and providing them with that opportunity are important in order to translate empirical approaches into successful treatments. I do my best to provide informed, ethical and personalized care.

I work with children and adolescents struggling with anxiety, depression,
ADHD
, trauma, grief and loss, family changes, challenging peer relationships and the behaviors that can result from these issues. I have training and experience using Play Therapy and Sandplay, which employ children's natural way of communicating and learning, as well as other therapeutic modalities as appropriate to each individual. My approach is client centered and often non-directive, believing that when children experience emotional safety in a non-judgmental relationship, their inner wisdom naturally emerges to guide their learning, healing and growth.

My specialties: Loss & grief, life transition, traumas, parenting, couples/marriage counseling,
ADHD
, PTSD, depressions and anxieties.
I perceive life as a journey, consisting of searching meaning and coping: Meaning in different roles and aspects of life motivates us to move forward; coping is strategies to get there from here. However, at different life stages, we often got stuck because of different reasons. Thus, either we no longer can see the life meaning(s) and/or our coping strategies are no longer effective. We are likely stuck under these circumstances, which leads to sufferings. I believe that counseling is a catalyst to facilitate the needed changes & adjustments to get unstuck and to have a meaningful life again.

My support is trauma-informed, LGBTQ affirming, and I am experienced with partners navigating
ADHD
, parenting, cultural differences, and attachment trauma.
I see relationships as mirrors that help us see our deeper needs and unhealed pain. It’s no coincidence that the stressors and traumas life hands us show up in our closest relationships. If you find yourself overwhelmed by relationship anxieties or stuck in a self-doubt-filled survival mode, you deserve support. You weren't meant to carry this all on your own. I often support those who want to reconnect with their partner, develop self-trust, communicate their needs, heal after a breakup, loss, or betrayal, navigate identity changes, make sense of harmful patterns in their relationships, or find more alive-ness in their life.

As your therapist, my goal is to be an ally and collaborate with you to help you find balance in an otherwise chaotic world. One of my first priorities when working with a new client is to hear their story. Through that, I strive to empower you so that you can live the life you want and deserve. I will help you go inward and make sustainable changes so that you grow into the best version of yourself. I see clients as a whole person with many functioning parts/roles making up who they are and how they see the world.

We all experience anxiety, fear, depression or suffering - especially when faced with life transitions. Teens transitioning to adulthood; families transitioning through marriage, parenthood, divorce; individuals transitioning through career changes and aging; are all common, but often stressful experiences. These transitions also have the potential to bring joy, reflection and peace. However, we all need help sometimes to find the joy in our lives. I particularly enjoy helping adolescents and young adults find their path in this world, and believe this is a particularly critical transition.

Hello, we are accepting new patients! And that is a blessing during this trying time where mental health issues have skyrocketed. Whether you're struggling with remnants of the pandemic, hurtful and dysfunctional familial dynamics, difficulty achieving a healthy work-life balance and/or enduring past or current traumas, you have found an ally. Developmental, relational and attachment trauma disconnects us from ourselves, our loved ones and even our spirituality. These types of traumas can leave us feeling isolated, unfulfilled and despondent. We all deserve to feel at peace - and that begins by learning how to heal.

When should I seek treatment for ADHD?
You should seek treatment for ADHD if you consistently have difficulty with attention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity that interferes with your daily life. Symptoms of ADHD include the inability to sustain attention during tasks, difficulty organizing tasks and activities, being easily distracted, frequent fidgeting or squirming, and talking or interrupting excessively. If these symptoms interfere with your career, academics, or relationships—for example, consistently failing to complete professional projects on time—you should seek an evaluation for ADHD.
How does treatment for ADHD work?
Effective treatment for ADHD often consists of medication, behavioral therapy, and lifestyle changes. Stimulant medications such as Adderall and Ritalin work by altering levels of neurotransmitters in the brain; higher levels of dopamine and norepinephrine are known to improve attention and focus. Therapy works by helping people with ADHD understand the condition, discuss their areas of difficulty, and develop behavioral strategies to manage their symptoms. In some cases, modifying one’s diet and exercise can also help improve symptoms.
Are there specific medications for ADHD?
Medications to treat ADHD are generally stimulants, the most common are Adderall and Ritalin. There are two categories of stimulants: Amphetamines include Adderall, Dyanavel, Vyvanse, and Dexedrine, and methylphenidates include Ritalin, Concerta, Daytrana, Focalin, Quillichew, Quillivant, and Metadate. Non-stimulants and antidepressants may be used as an alternative if stimulants aren’t effective or viable for a particular patient.
How long does treatment for ADHD take?
It’s tough to give an exact time frame because everyone varies. In terms of medications, stimulants begin to work very soon after you take them, generally within the hour. It may take time to identify the right medication and dosage, but the medication itself is fast-acting. In terms of therapy, it takes time to develop skills and put them into practice, but you will likely see improvements within a few weeks or months.
