My practice specializes in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) for anxiety (e.g., OCD, Social Anxiety, Panic, Phobias etc.) and related disorders (e.g., Insomnia , Picking, Pulling). I provide individual treatment for adults and late adolescents. My goal is to provide individualized, compassionate, effective, evidence-based treatment. My approach has its grounding in CBT but when appropriate I also use mindfulness techniques, components of Acceptance and Commitment therapy (ACT), and Schema Therapy to enhance the treatment and support the client's movement toward accomplishing treatment goals.

Clinical hypnotherapy is a powerful treatment strategy with broad applications. Hypnosis engages with the subconscious mind by offering new ideas and new stories to help shift unhelpful or harmful patterns of behavior. Hypnosis can be used to treat a variety of clinical conditions (e.g. insomnia , jaw clenching), phobias (dogs, flying), and even addiction.

I collaborate with clients to overcome the disabling symptoms and behavior patterns caused by trauma and to reclaim a sense of safety, security, self-worth and serenity. Together we work through the issues causing deep pain and holding you back from a healthy, happy, hopeful life. Trauma survivors often have symptoms - depression, irritability, insomnia , mistrust, chronic pain, compulsive behavior, loss of sense of self - rather than memories.  For the person suffering from trauma, just being is an act of bravery. Working toward healing is a courageous step.

I am certified in Prolonged Exposure Therapy for PTSD, Level 1 Integrative Harm Reduction Psychotherapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia and Nightmares, Sexual Health in Recovery, and Co-Occurring Psychiatric and Substance Abuse Disorders (COPSD).
When we experience challenging events in our lives, it is human nature to seek to avoid uncomfortable memories, emotions, or body sensations related to these events. Much like the body possesses the innate power to heal a cut on your leg, the mind is equipped with this same intelligence. Using suspension of judgment and psychoeducation, I provide knowledge and a safe container for clients to access their inner healing intelligence and find meaning in difficult experiences. I am also deeply passionate about harm reduction and I have dedicated many years of my career to addressing my clients' relationship with substances.

Accepting New Clients! Where have you come from, where are you now and where is it that you wish to go? I believe that each of our lives is an intricate interplay of many stories. We all have a unique and beautiful story to live and share, yet our story is not simply our own. We each exist and are formed by the interplay of our own stories, the stories of those who have helped us and harmed us, our stories of trauma, cultural stories, familial stories, and so on. Let's work together to discover the character you are in your life's story, what has shaped that character and empower the character you wish to be.

I am a psychotherapist trained in systems theory. I have a master's degree in Applied Behavioral Science - Systems Counseling from the Leadership Institute of Seattle (LIOS) at Bastyr University. Systems counseling embraces each client as an individual living system. It examines how clients' memberships in other living systems (such as family, friends, co-workers, partnerships, etc.) interrelate, influence, and impact each other.

Taking new clients. Therapy can help shift something within our control or change how we relate to something outside our control. This might look like understanding why we're repeating personal patterns and what we can do to change them or developing healthy strategies and boundaries to deal with people, places, and things we can't change. We'll work to identify the patterns of emotions, thoughts, behaviors, and relationships currently showing up in your life, and how you might want to adjust them to live a life more in alignment with what you truly value. A life enabling you to find and lean-in to your best self.

Let's face it, life can be stressful. That stress can become even more pronounced as you navigate new transitions like becoming an adult, moving to a new city, starting a new job, or leaving a relationship. Often times we have the answer but just need help sorting things out. Sometimes family and friends can be too close to help you identify your challenges. Sometimes THEY are the challenge. Working and trying to manage day-to-day responsibilities is no simple task. This is why I a firm believer in therapy.

Welcome! I am currently working with adults, predominantly women in all stages of life, who are coping with anxiety, depression, life stage transitions, times of adjustment, and who are navigating interpersonal issues with family and friends. Life has been challenging recently, and consequently during times of stress and change we often put ourselves last on the to-do list. This is not a place we tend to live happy, productive and meaningful lives from. I will help you explore new and healthy ways to move forward on your personal journey to wellness.

When life is difficult, we need a place to explore how to regain our emotional balance of self. In therapy, we focus on how past experiences and relationships have shaped the way we interact with others and how we learned to negotiate the world around us.

Sleep or Insomnia Therapists

How effective is treatment for insomnia?

The most effective treatments for insomnia are behavioral techniques that reduce anxiety, including anxiety about falling asleep, and allow the body’s natural cycles to be recalibrated. The most common treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), which researchers have found to be more useful than medication, with rates of success as high as 80 percent.

Are there specific medications for sleep problems?

There are many medications, both over-the-counter and prescription that treat sleep problems. Supplements such as melatonin are popular and may help, though there is little evidence that it is more effective than a placebo. Prescription medications such as zolpidem are sometimes prescribed.

Are there natural treatments for sleep problems?

There are many natural treatments for everyday sleep problems. Reducing blue-light emitting screens, setting a regular bedtime, regular exercise, reducing caffeine and nicotine consumption, and keeping the bedroom dark and cool at night are all lifestyle changes that can help those who struggle with sleep but may not reach the level of an insomnia diagnosis.

What’s the difference between having trouble falling asleep and insomnia?

Life events, stress, and anxiety can lead to sleepless nights for everyone from time to time. To be diagnosed with insomnia, a patient must experience trouble falling asleep, trouble remaining asleep, waking up too early, or non-restorative sleep at least three nights per week for at least one month. Sleep problems affect one-third to one-half of the population, while chronic insomnia affects about 10 to 15 percent of people.
