I love the diversity and uniqueness of the clients I meet. I prize developing a warm and close working relationship with my clients. The rewards can be great, especially with kids that are experiencing big emotional, physical and situational changes that can often be so intense and so indescribable at the same time. I have demonstrated a knack for helping to supply words and meaning to adolescent and young adult experience and for helping to alleviate uncertainty, anxiety, tension and strife. I also identify and utilize a person's strengths as a primary means of positive change.

Disappointment can linger even when life looks fine on the outside. You may feel constantly on edge, as if you can’t fully relax or let your guard down. You second-guess yourself, replay conversations, and struggle to answer the simple question, “How are you, really?” You take care of others while your own needs stay unspoken, crave closeness but pull away when it gets real, and carry a quiet sense that something isn’t working the way it should. In our work together, we slow these moments down, so you can understand what’s driving them and begin to feel steadier, more connected, and more like yourself.

Does a basic discussion turn into an all-day argument? Do you feel like you are in a relationship with a stranger? Do you feel like identifying and eliminating unhealthy behaviors from your relationship seem impossible? Relationships, regardless of what kind, are the responsibility of both parties involved. Each relationship has its own fingerprints and no two are the same. I help couples and individuals identify and resolve the underlying cause of their conflict whether it’s current or historic. I believe relationships can be saved and flourish as both parties understand the role they play in the relationship’s success.

Hey there! I am a Marriage and Family Therapist trained to work with couples and families, but I am here for individuals, too. I proudly provide an affirming space for the LGBTQ community. My approach is humanistic. That means no robot therapy and no blank stares. I am warm, real, and engaging. I am not a sit-and-nod type therapist. Therapy with me is a real conversation where you can laugh, cry, roll your eyes, or swear when you need to. Sometimes all of that happens in the same session, and it still counts as progress. We will work at the pace that feels right for you. If the pain is raw, we can move slowly.

We all come to moments in life where we realize we can't do things the same way anymore. We need people in our lives who can see our whole, unfinished selves and lean in rather than shying away. Whether you're experiencing a sense of "stuckness" in your current season of life, or feel like you're doing okay and want to cultivate continued personal growth - I believe curiosity and safe relationships are the best ways to start! The more practice we have engaging emotional and relational spaces in a healthy way, the more equipped we are to face adversity, begin healing from wounds, and flourish in the seasons to come.

Male Therapists

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with therapists of a specific gender. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
