In the journey of life, challenges and obstacles will arise which can leave one feeling unbalanced and emotionally depleted. These feelings can make you feel like your self-esteem has taken a hit and leave you feeling unworthy of love and belonging. I feel everyone has the potential to find balance and healing in rewriting their own future story. My goal in working with you would be to provide a safe place to explore and effectively express emotions, set goals to increase quality of life and improve communication skills while rebuilding your self-worth and self-esteem.

I am available in-person in Olympia on Fridays and Puyallup on Tuesday-Thursday as well as via telehealth statewide Monday-Friday.
I’m a Licensed Mental Health Counselor Associate with Ash & Birch Counseling. I support adolescents (16+) and adults navigating trauma, anxiety and panic, OCD, disordered eating, relational difficulties, abuse recovery, caregiver stress, and significant life transitions. I aim to understand the language of your inner world and help you make sense of your experience. Trauma can create a sense of fragmentation, with different parts of us over- or under-functioning to feel safe. Our work is toward integration: developing compassion for these patterns while opening new possibilities for how you relate to yourself, your body, and others.

I offer daytime, evening, and weekend sessions virtually and in-person.
Many of the people I work with have spent years holding things together for everyone else while quietly wondering why they feel stuck, disconnected, overwhelmed, or exhausted themselves. Others come because a relationship no longer feels the way it once did, communication has broken down, anxiety has become difficult to manage, or life has entered a season of unexpected change. I work with individuals, partners, and families from all backgrounds who want more than temporary relief. They want to understand themselves more deeply, strengthen their relationships, and move through life with greater clarity and intention.

I utilize Motivational Interviewing with a Humanistic/Existential approach as a foundation to my therapy. Which means understanding that a "whole" person is more than the sum of his or her parts. I understand people by examining their interpersonal relationships. That people have many levels of self-awareness, that can be neither ignored nor put into an abstract context. I also believe individuals have free will and are participants rather than observers in their own lives; and that people's lives have purpose, value and meaning. I choose to submerge myself into the world of the person; I am working with. Take that first step today!

Life is a journey. We follow a path and sometimes there are things that get in the way, and we start to feel stuck in old patterns/habits, picking unhealthy relationships, and/or we just can't understand why we are unhappy, especially when we have done all the 'right' things. Talking about where we want to go with a therapist and finding different ways to challenge and change those old coping mechanisms and learn to get 'unstuck', with CBT, DBT, and/or EMDR can be helpful. I enjoy working with people to process trauma, tackle anxiety issues, and navigate relationships.

I believe strongly in the inner capacity of all humans to grow and heal in mind, body, and spirit from trauma or barriers faced in life. Due to our interconnected nature, this healing capacity is deepened and broadened through the assistance and support of others. I seek to hold a safe space through the therapeutic relationship to allow for the development of greater understanding and appreciation of self. Through this process, people begin to heal, make meaningful changes and courageously act in ways that reflect their authentic self.

FAQ - About In Person Therapy
What are the benefits of in-person therapy?
In-person therapy offers several benefits that some people find highly valuable for their mental health treatment. Being present in the same room as your therapist can create a stronger sense of connection and allow for more nuanced communication through body language. Some people may also find it easier to focus in therapy when they are in a dedicated space and away from potential distractions related to home or work; attending an in-person session provides a clear boundary between therapy time and the rest of your life. For certain therapeutic approaches, such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), exposure therapy, or somatic therapy, being in person may be particularly important, as these therapies benefit from the therapist being able to observe and respond to a client’s physical cues effectively. Additionally, some individuals simply feel more comfortable discussing sensitive or painful topics when they are face-to-face with their therapist rather than on a screen.

When should I choose in-person therapy over online therapy?
In-person therapy may be a better choice when you need a structured therapeutic environment separate from your daily life, when you find it difficult to focus or feel comfortable in an online setting, or when privacy at home is a concern. It may also be more appropriate if you are dealing with severe mental health symptoms that require close monitoring or if your therapy involves approaches that rely heavily on observing physical cues. On the other hand, if convenience, scheduling flexibility, or access to specialists outside your immediate area are priorities, online therapy may be a better fit. Many therapists offer both options, so you can also discuss with a provider which format might work best for your specific situation.

How do I find an in-person therapist?
You can use Psychology Today's therapist directory to find an in-person therapist in your area. You can search by location, insurance accepted, specialty areas, therapeutic approaches, and other criteria to narrow down providers who meet your needs. Each therapist profile includes information about their credentials, areas of expertise, and whether they offer in-person sessions. Once you have identified potential therapists, you can contact them directly through the directory to schedule an initial consultation and determine whether they are a good fit before committing to ongoing treatment. When reaching out, it can be helpful to confirm their availability for in-person appointments, their office location, and whether they accept your insurance.
