I am unable to accept new clients at this time. Relationships may be difficult to say the least. Sometimes we feel blindsided by life's twists and turns. We all struggle at times to feel understood or with self doubt, while searching for solutions to overwhelming problems. Whether you are an individual or couple troubled by a present, past or current event, taking that first step, towards talking to someone who may be able to help sort things out, may be one of the most difficult things you do. I would like to make it a little easier.

Loving presence is at the heart of my practice. I trust the inner wisdom of each individual and view the therapist-client relationship as a collaboration. We all experience challenging seasons of life. In difficult times, we may realize that our habitual behaviors and patterns of relating to others are out of alignment with our core values. In our work together, I will gently encourage self-inquiry in service of realigning with your wise, authentic self. I believe that the body holds a deep wisdom that each one of us can ultimately learn to trust.

I love working with those looking to understand themselves better and heal wounds of the past. If you're anything like me, you also find safety in understanding why you do the things you do. Making sense of symptoms can lead us to better awareness of patterns and gives us opportunities to break the cycles that keep us from our goals, who we want to be, and where we want to go in life.

I provide support for anyone experiencing any form of distress, depression, or anxiety. This is often expressed as unhappiness with your life, work, or relationships. Overarching my approach is an interest in the creation of meaning. How do you make sense of your experience? What do you want? I work with individuals, couples and families to gain insight and to identify the underlying causes to challenges in their lives. I help people to figure out where they are currently at and to find solutions, while building on the strengths of the individual, couple and/or family. With my assistance, clients prioritize their needs and then set simple, realistic, and achievable goals. Clients draw on their experience and learn to appreciate the areas of their life where they are enjoying success. Clients gain the skills and tools needed to meet their goals.

I take a relational approach when working with clients. We have all been shaped by both our personal history and intergenerational history. My hope is that anyone who would invest considerable time, energy, emotion, and money into therapy desires clarity and awareness. Oftentimes, clients have never been given a safe place to process the underlying reasons for the present-day issues. Nor have they been asked the right questions that would help them reflect on the joy and pain that was and is present. This is needed to develop a sense of self. I hope to be part of a client's journey toward being more fully who they were born to be.

I am currently taking new clients on a limited basis. I work with teens and adult individuals. I specialize in trauma, which underlies many psycho-emotional problems such as anxiety and depression. However, I am chiefly interested in working with people experiencing important life transitions and challenges, especially when they feel stuck, confused, or lost. I am available for a short, no-cost phone interview to answer your questions about my practice.

For 25 years I worked with over 16,000 suicidal patients on the mental health unit of St. Francis Hospital with my office partner, Psychiatrist Dr. Sunida Bintasan, From observing their common patterns, I created an educational program (for persons with issues of deep despair, hopelessness, depression, feeling "LOST" & "TRAPPED" & "STUCK", and often with recurrent suicidal thinking) called Contextual-Conceptual Therapy (CCT). Combining expressive arts techniques, education, and therapy using "maps, models, & metaphors", it helps clients discover the roots of their deep despair, feeling trapped & lost, and/or suicidal thinking.

I work with adults and couples and have experience working with a wide range of issues. We’ll talk about what’s important for you and what goals you have for therapy, and this will guide our work together. I am interested in learning more about how individuals become able to access parts of themselves that can be open to growth and change. When I work with couples I try to understand what is preventing growth in their relationship and to facilitate an atmosphere for new growth and new ways of being with each other.

Psychoanalytic Therapists
Does psychoanalytic therapy work?
Psychoanalytic therapy derives from the work of Sigmund Freud. In this type of therapy, discovering buried thoughts and emotions from the unconscious will help a person work through their difficulties and negative behaviors. Research shows that psychoanalytic therapy can be highly effective, with patients reporting improvement in mood, quality of life, and overall well-being.
How long are people typically in psychoanalytic therapy?
Traditional psychoanalysis is in-depth and is conducted in five sessions every week. Today, modern psychoanalytic therapy is less intense and normally incorporates as few as one or two sessions a week. In some cases, positive change can occur quickly. However, if the condition, difficulty, or behavior is deep-seated, improvement may require many months or years of therapy.
Is psychoanalytic therapy suitable for young people?
Children and adolescents can benefit from this type of therapy. Many kids and teens are often unable to form and communicate their thoughts and emotions. Psychoanalytic therapy uses specific techniques such as dream analysis, symbolism, and free association or word association; all of which can be useful tools for less-communicative young people. Through this therapy, a patient will hopefully make connections between what they feel inside and how the world works outside.
Can psychoanalytic therapy be done online?
Modern-day psychoanalytic therapy is very different from traditional psychoanalysis. While an individual can sit face-to-face with the psychoanalyst for multiple sessions a week, they do not have to. Today, psychoanalytic therapy can be effectively conducted online or by phone. The key is that the individual confronts what is repressed and avoided, and this can be done whether in person or over online video.
