Grief and loss are a part of all our lives.
I AM NOT CURRENTLY ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS. Why get therapy? It's hard work and involves change. But for most people, it's worth it. Therapy is taking care of and investing in yourself. It means you are ready to look at the parts of your life that are not working well-the parts that are hurt, broken or in pain. As your therapist, I will listen with empathy and compassion. Together, we will establish goals and focus on what might make your life better by helping you build resilience and develop coping skills. Through this work, you can learn to be in healthy relationships with others and ultimately with yourself.

I provide astrologically informed therapy. By that I mean that astrology is my main theoretical orientation, and is the guiding principle in how I understand people. I seek to help each person embody their essential nature more fully. My approach is non-pathologizing. I work to listen carefully to you to understand your experience. As we are all touched by suffering and loss , we sometimes must face difficulties that we cannot cope with on our own. In therapy we gain support to face and work through these kinds of issues. Above all, your concerns direct our work together.

I specialize in helping people heal the trauma wounds that limit their joy and wellbeing; on companioning those facing life altering loss ; and on helping couples strengthen their emotional bonds, by recognizing the emotional wounds that are impacting their relationships and practicing patterns of interaction that support healing.
The emotional wounds caused by trauma, or by not getting our needs met when we are young, left untreated, continue to cost us dearly. They underlie our feelings of depression, anxiety, insecurity, and rage; our unhealthy patterns including addictions, eating disorders and insomnia; and the toxic, repetitive dynamics that keep playing out in our closest relationships, despite our best intentions. These wounds also compromise our motivation to move forward in our lives, and our ability to focus our attention, to make healthy decisions and to respond appropriately to what's happening around us.

Can you imagine that it's possible to behold your journey as an opportunity for growth, healing and enriched connections? What would it be like to know that you have the capacity to hold both grief and gratitude? It could be that you have come to a cross-road or are standing on significant thresholds as you face transitions, challenges and decision-making. Maybe grief has cracked you open, or you are struggling with illness and long to discover meaning and balance once again. Perhaps you have an emergent sense that there is “something more” that you are yearning for?

I have experience helping adults manage: depression, anxiety, trauma, grief , life-transitions, mood instability, relational stress as well as those yearning to find more meaning in their life.
Even though it may not seem like it, often times our symptoms are messengers from a deep part of our own psyche, sent to inform us that we need to find new ways of relating to ourselves and those around us in order to reach our next level of growth. My philosophy is one of wholeness; our bodies, emotions, thoughts, and background work in unison to inform our present experience. It is my goal to help you find more flexibility within your experience, so that you can move towards the life that you truly want to be living.

I work with people who are struggling to cope with grief , loss , and life change, and all the complications that come along with those. Grief demands our attention and seeps into every area of our lives, whether we recognize it or not. If you have experienced loss —not just the death of a loved one, but loss of anything important (relationship, job, religion/spirituality, miscarriage, health, sense of self, etc)—I would love to work with you as you navigate life in light of that loss . Together, we can create practical tools for growth and healing that help you move from pain to peace as you figure out this new season of life.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
