I specialize in
couples counseling
, life transitions, and
relationship
issues of all kinds, and help those who are overwhelmed, discouraged, or in conflict solve their problems.
In my 40 years as a psychologist my goal has been to provide the safe nurturing environment that creates a productive client/therapist
relationship
. I have never forgotten my early experiences in seeking help from a therapist, wondering what it would be like, and if it would really help. I appreciated the understanding and insight I received then, and throughout my life, sometimes with my husband, I have found different kinds of therapy that were helpful to me and to my clients.

I specialize in working with college students or young professionals who are tired of feeling lost, lonely & disconnected to instead get to know themselves & begin prioritizing this
relationship
above all others.
Is anxiety, overwhelm & past trauma making you feel like the walls are caving in? You’ve done everything “right” in life, only to realize that hasn’t made life any easier. Maybe you are one of those high achievers that succeeds at everything, or a people-pleaser terrified of confrontation. Either way – you feel out of control & ashamed, because - why can’t you figure this mental health stuff out? On top of all this, you are at a time of great transition, change & growth. Learning how to be an adult in a scary & unpredictable world can feel very lonely & sometimes crushing. Especially a world that seems like it’s going off the rails.

If you are experiencing particular challenges and are looking for support on your journey toward growth and wholeness, a counseling
relationship
can provide a tremendous opportunity to move towards vitality, groundedness, and healing.
We often learn ways of dealing with problems that can create more trouble than we intended. Maybe you become habitually hard on yourself or those around you. Maybe you feel stuck in indecision or backed into a corner by life's demands. Maybe you have found ways to soothe yourself that aren't serving you anymore. Or you might be facing the reality of one of life's painful truths such as loss, illness or an accident that has altered your course, leaving you unsure how to face what undeniably is, or how to move forward.

I am a licensed mental health counselor, and have been in practice for over 30 years. Over the years I've worked with a diverse population of individuals with a broad range of life's gifts and challenges. My abiding concern in this work is developing an attentive and respectful
relationship
where a deepening collaboration is possible. I will be interested in your current life, your history and memories, your dreams and aspirations. I will also be interested in how your body, it's symptoms and sensations, aches, pains and illnesses speak to us as we carefully listen and attune.

For 30+ years I have worked with adults seeking relief from depression, anxiety,
relationship
strains, loss, addiction. For all my clients, healing is integral: we attend to troubling emotions, patterns of thinking, body sensations and spirit. My study of biodynamic craniosacral therapy, a gentle touch therapy, confirmed for me that within each of us there is inherent health. We learn to listen and align with this health, building on already existing resources, creating a new trusting connection and learning new skills.

I work with individuals,
couples
, and families to address issues ranging from relational conflict to the broad spectrum of mental health. Through an eclectic approach utilizing cognitive behavioral, solution-focused, and family systems-based modalities, I explore current problems within the social, cultural, and environmental context of life experiences and the impact these experiences have on both physical and mental health. I often approach the presenting issue as a symptom and endeavor to assist clients in developing an understanding of the function that problem serves and how to achieve that same function with more desired outcomes.

I believe that therapy facilitates transformation through
relationship
, and that people get better with a deep sense of human connection.
I provide astrologically informed therapy. By that I mean that astrology is my main theoretical orientation, and is the guiding principle in how I understand people. I seek to help each person embody their essential nature more fully. My approach is non-pathologizing. I work to listen carefully to you to understand your experience. As we are all touched by suffering and loss, we sometimes must face difficulties that we cannot cope with on our own. In therapy we gain support to face and work through these kinds of issues. Above all, your concerns direct our work together.

Couples Counseling Therapists
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
