Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Therapists in Parkland, WA
I am John Kopp, and it is a pleasure to meet you. Living as a human being is inherently difficult. Pain, change, and loss are guaranteed. When you add the slings and arrows of trauma to the baseline difficulty of being alive, it makes sense that you are looking for help. Nothing about your reaction is wrong.
My clients are adults working through trauma, grief, depression, and the weight of experiences that would have broken anyone. You do not need to justify why you are here. You need a space to tell the truth about what has happened, with someone who is not going to flinch.

I believe in celebrating the full complexity of who you are, and in empowering you through a therapeutic process that is actually shaped around you. Too many people have experienced therapy that felt generic, rushed, or like their background and story were footnotes instead of the main text. You deserve better than that.
My clients are adults working on self-esteem, identity, cultural and life transitions, anxiety, and the deeper work of becoming someone you recognize and respect. Commitment and compassion are at the forefront of every session, because without those, nothing else really holds.

You may be overwhelmed by an overly critical mind that says you are undeserving, less than, or too much. Perhaps you take care of others and forget to take care of yourself. You long for companionship and have a deep desire to matter, to belong, and to be respected.

My approach blends Acceptance and Commitment Therapy ( ACT), trauma-informed care, emotional processing, and psychodynamic insight.
You’re insightful and self-aware, but that doesn’t mean you’re not struggling. Maybe you’re feeling overwhelmed by expectations, unsure how to set boundaries without guilt, or caught in cycles of anxiety and self-criticism. Therapy is a space where we can make room for those experiences together- with honesty, curiosity, and compassion. I support young adults navigating identity shifts, emotional fatigue, and relationship challenges while helping to build lives guided by what matters most. I don’t believe in "fixing" you. I believe in creating space for your complexity, agency, and capacity to grow.

Many of my clients have spent years surviving in roles that left little room for who they really are. I specialize in working with adults with ADHD, particularly women who discover their ADHD later in life. For many, receiving a diagnosis is not about finding something "wrong", it's about finally finding an explanation that brings clarity, validation, and self-compassion after years of feeling misunderstood. As a late-diagnosed woman with ADHD myself, I understand both the challenges and the relief that can come with finally making sense of your experiences. My goal is to help you better understand yourself, advocate for your needs, and cultivate confidence, authenticity, and a life that feels more aligned with who you truly are.

I am passionate about working with clients when they are in their season of change, whether that is work and relationship transitions, questioning and addressing gender and sexuality, and testing the waters about how to feel differently about their story up to this point.

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Therapists
How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.
What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?
The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.
Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?
Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.
How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?
A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
