The waters of life can be stormy; currents and eddies abound. Even the best of swimmers can get disoriented, tired out, or feeling lost at sea. You can find a safe harbor with Buoy 10 Psychotherapy; a place to get your breath and your bearings; a space to learn new ways to get to shore or wherever your destination might be.

My passion is in connecting clients to their inner process - what is trying to happen - as demonstrated by their symptoms. Once we discover the issue and address it, the symptoms no longer need to be present. This approach is from a type of Jungian psychotherapy called Process Oriented Psychology, which holds as its premise that there is always something right about what is going on in our lives - our process. It also includes a mixture of some Taoism and Buddhism, and can include work with body symptoms, dreams, and relationships. I look forward to talking with you to see how I might help you resolve your personal issues.

Accepting New Clients! For years I wondered why I struggled with focusing, poor memory, high energy, listening, deadlines, or remembering to eat. It was only after I was diagnosed with ADHD before I realized "hey, I am not making this up," or "I am not dumb- I learn differently." Attempts to meet the expectations of a neurotypical society creates a harmful cycle where we feel it is relentless and never ending. Past life experiences can and still haunt us, as society continues to "inform" us of what "normal" looks like. Trying to mask who we are daily is exhausting and painful, and only breeds more pain and internal hurt.

I enjoy helping who are navigating a significant life transition or grappling with questions about identity, purpose, and change. Clients may be in the process of moving from adolescence to adulthood, adjusting to new responsibilities, or re-evaluating long held patterns in relationships and behavior. Often they come to me because life feels uncertain or out of balance. They sense that something needs to shift, but aren't sure where to start.

Have you ever thought, “Why is this so hard?” Maybe you know something needs to change, but you can’t seem to figure out what. You find yourself stuck in the same relationship dynamics, struggling to say what you need, wondering if you’re asking for too much, or feeling frustrated by reactions that don’t make sense to you. On the outside, you may appear thoughtful, capable, and self-aware. On the inside, you’re exhausted from trying to understand why things still feel so difficult.

Welcome to a safe space for self-discovery and healing. I work with clients navigating complex, developmental, and attachment trauma, as well as depression and anxiety. Many are thoughtful, self-aware people who may feel stuck in patterns that no longer serve them, especially in relationships or in how they relate to themselves. My space is real, relational, and relaxed. If you need a strictly formal or highly clinical approach, we probably won’t be a great fit. If hearing the occasional curse word feels grounding rather than shocking, you’re in the right place.

You’ve been holding it all together for so long that slowing down now feels unfamiliar, even unsafe. Even when you try to relax, does your body still feel like it’s bracing for something? You think clearly, get things done, show up for others… but inside, you feel scattered, anxious, and far from yourself. Maybe you’re realizing that survival isn’t the same as living. Therapy can be a space to exhale, reconnect with your body, and build a more spacious way of being. You don’t need to have it all figured out, just a safe place to begin.

Self Esteem Therapists
When should a person seek therapy for low self-esteem?
When self-esteem problems begin to disrupt the healthy daily functioning of an individual, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If a person finds that they are not engaging with friends for fear of being judged, not completing work assignments because they don’t think they’re capable, or not finding romantic love because they don’t feel they’re worthy of it, a therapist may be able to help.

What are the signs of low self-esteem?
Low self-esteem is a common issue that can affect a person's mental and emotional well-being. Some common signs of low self-esteem include negative self-talk, perfectionism, social anxiety, difficulty making decisions, an inability to set boundaries, people-pleasing, and others. A lack of belief in oneself or one’s abilities and a feeling of not being worthy or deserving underlie most of these characteristics.

What causes low self-esteem?
Feelings of low self-worth can begin in childhood or adulthood. Being raised by a highly critical parent or growing up feeling constant disapproval can stay with a person well into adulthood. Specific issues in adulthood may also be a cause of low self-esteem. An unhappy relationship, a dysfunctional work or school experience can impact a person’s feelings of self-worth.

How can therapy improve self-esteem?
Therapists can help identify negative thought patterns that keep the client stuck in a loop of destructive self-talk and develop coping skills to change the voice in their head. A therapist can help with goal-setting, so that clients are better able to stay on task and build confidence from successfully completing work they’re proud of. Coaching a client on how to better communicate can improve relationships. These skills can result in someone with low self-esteem feeling empowered and living with less fear.
