I enjoy helping who are navigating a significant life transition or grappling with questions about identity, purpose, and change. Clients may be in the process of moving from adolescence to adulthood, adjusting to new responsibilities, or re-evaluating long held patterns in relationships and behavior. Often they come to me because life feels uncertain or out of balance. They sense that something needs to shift, but aren't sure where to start.

Feeling stuck or reactive in old patterns? I've been there and I see you. I believe in the transformative power of compassion and self-awareness and the peace that comes with a calm nervous system. My non-pathologizing approach is rooted in the understanding that every individual comes with their own unique set of past experiences and I strive to create a welcoming, nonjudgmental space of present attention where one’s feelings and truths are valid. Working from a systems perspective, I conceptualize each person within the context of their unique environments, recognizing the complex interplay of factors that shape their experiences.

My approach draws from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness, motivational interviewing, Gestalt therapy, and person-centered care.
Anxiety, depression, and self-doubt can show up in ways that feel heavy and isolating. Maybe it feels hard to connect, like you're moving through your days but feeling distant from yourself or others. These experiences can make it hard to trust your own instincts or feel settled in your life. I work with LGBTQIA+ adults navigating these challenges, helping them explore what’s underneath the patterns that keep them feeling stuck. I earned my degree from Grand Valley State University in 2002 and have been walking alongside clients on their healing journeys ever since.

I am ready to work with you no matter where you are on your life path or your readiness to change. I would especially love to work with you if you have ever felt marginalized, unacceptable, unlovable, stuck, traumatized, or doomed because of your past. I have 10+ years of experience helping clients like you to find meaningful change. Most of my experience has been meeting with clients in person, but right now I am only able to offer telehealth sessions. Clients and I have found that these virtual sessions can be just as effective as in-person meetings. Plus, they are convenient! Meet in your home, car, or while taking a walk!

Do you feel like you’re constantly trying to keep up with a world that just doesn’t quite fit you? A lot of the people I work with feel overwhelmed, anxious, or burned out from years of masking or pushing themselves to meet expectations that don’t match how they actually function.
I specialize in working with neurodivergent adults, including autism and ADHD, especially folks who are late-diagnosed or starting to question things for the first time. Many of my clients come in thinking they “just have anxiety,” but we end up uncovering a bigger picture that finally makes things make sense.

We all deserve respect, care, and acceptance. I have a passion for helping people navigate the difficult transitions that can occur in life due to a change in health or other circumstances. I believe that we all do our best given the resources and situation provided, and that a change in perspective or new tool can make all the difference. Besides primarily using a cognitive behavioral therapy framework to address unconscious processes, I have broad experience incorporating existential, spiritual, and meaning based approaches in pursuing growth.

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Therapists
How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?
Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.
When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?
If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behavior through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.
What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?
This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviors and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.
Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?
Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioral habits.
