Accepting New Clients! For years I wondered why I struggled with focusing, poor memory, high energy, listening, deadlines, or remembering to eat. It was only after I was diagnosed with ADHD before I realized "hey, I am not making this up," or "I am not dumb- I learn differently." Attempts to meet the expectations of a neurotypical society creates a harmful cycle where we feel it is relentless and never ending. Past life experiences can and still haunt us, as society continues to "inform" us of what "normal" looks like. Trying to mask who we are daily is exhausting and painful, and only breeds more pain and internal hurt.

My therapy techniques are integrated, heavily influenced by the evidence-based practices of Motivational Interviewing, Solution Focused Brief Therapy, Seeking Safety, Internal Family Systems, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy with 12 step wisdom.
I enjoy helping who are navigating a significant life transition or grappling with questions about identity, purpose, and change. Clients may be in the process of moving from adolescence to adulthood, adjusting to new responsibilities, or re-evaluating long held patterns in relationships and behavior. Often they come to me because life feels uncertain or out of balance. They sense that something needs to shift, but aren't sure where to start.

Talk therapy is great, but what many of the people I work with have missed in past therapy experiences is how to implement what they have learned about themselves into their real life. Self-regulation is key and after establishing a solid foundation using skills training for increasing distress tolerance and emotion regulation, I work with people to get at the root of the problems they are experiencing by using EMDR therapy and other interventions that address the core stuff, which is often the stuff that has kept us stuck in patterns that hurt. From there, we can work on improving your relationships and personal development.

I work with people who need a little extra space, either literally or figuratively. People who live life in larger bodies and need someone who understands the challenges that comes with that, people who have polyamorous or other non-traditional relationships, or people who need the space and understanding to process childhood trauma or complex relationships with their families. If you're looking for someone who brings dark humor and is rarely shocked, I'm the person for you. I practice from a fully fat positive stance/HAES, I'm LGBTQIA affirming, and kink-aware.

My competence involves significant training and practice in a range of therapy models including Cognitive Behavioral (CBT), Dialectical Behavior ( DBT), Interpersonal Psychodynamic Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Mindfulness Based therapies.
Longing for balance? I believe that you already have the inner wisdom to know what you value and want in your life. In therapy, I will help you compassionately examine and understand patterns you have developed that no longer serve you. We work together to curate a path forward in the direction of your values, strengths, and dreams.
My approach involves first developing a contextual understanding of your life experiences, your values/dreams, and barriers you have encountered to feeling self-fulfillment. We will explore goals for therapy and I can provide my thoughts on how we might proceed. We then co-create a therapy plan.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Therapists
Who is DBT for?
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.
Why do people need DBT?
The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.
What happens in DBT?
Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.
How long does DBT last?
Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
