The mind and body are inextricably connected to one another, and so often we experience emotional pain when our bodies are struggling with medical problems.
My practice is 100% telehealth in the evening to accommodate work schedules. I have specialty training in older adult care and medical populations (e.g., cancer, heart disease, diabetes, organ transplant, chronic pain). I also offer evidence-based therapy for depression, anxiety, and insomnia, and provide one-time consultation or evaluation for diagnosis.

I use an interdisciplinary approach, which means I use different styles of counseling to meet the different needs and personalities of clients. I always allow their feedback so they remain comfortable. I try and meet their perceptual needs, emotional needs, cognitive needs, situational needs, and respect their individual personalities. I have worked with all ages, sexual orientations, ethnic backgrounds (including the Middle and Far East), and social economic backgrounds.

Therapy should feel like a place where you do not have to perform, explain away your pain, or fear judgment.
I am trained in Internal Family Systems (IFS), which I integrate with Somatic Experiencing. This simply means that my approach to therapy honors that we are all complex (with many parts), and sometimes therapy needs to include more than talking (embodiment). I have advanced training in the area of trauma, including certification in trauma response.

I believe each of us has an innate drive toward healing and wholeness, even in how we cope with pain.
Life events can leave us feeling unworthy, unlovable, or disconnected from our sense of self. We do the best we can with what we know—striving to care for ourselves and others—yet blame ourselves for not being enough. In our work together, we can gently uncover and let go of those limiting beliefs to make space for clarity and confidence.

Accepting new clients! In person or virtually. I specialize in menopause-informed mental health support for women navigating midlife transitions. This stage can bring unexpected physical, emotional, and mental changes that may not make sense. You may feel off in your body, overwhelmed by changes you cannot explain, or unsure what is happening. You may have sought care and left feeling dismissed or without answers… or been told it is just anxiety, but something does not feel right.

Chronic Pain Therapists
How does chronic pain therapy work?
Engaging with a psychotherapist to help treat chronic pain does not mean that one’s pain is all in their head. Therapy for chronic-pain patients has been shown to benefit both the mind and the body, targeting physical symptoms and increasing daily functioning. In other words, for many, addressing their emotional health through therapy affects their physical health. A therapist can help a client challenge unhelpful thoughts about pain and develop new ways to respond to it, such as distraction or calming breathing techniques. Studies have found that therapy can be as effective as surgery for certain cases of chronic pain and many doctors recommend trying psychotherapy in advance of considering invasive surgery.

What are the most effective treatment options for chronic pain?
Stress, anxiety, depression, catastrophizing, ruminating, lack of activity, and social withdrawal all make chronic pain worse. Addressing these issues, research shows, can help people gain control over their pain symptoms. Therapeutic approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy, biofeedback, and mindfulness-based stress reduction, along with greater pain-management education, have been found to help people reduce fear and disability.

Are there new treatments for chronic pain?
Many cases of chronic pain, particularly those involving back pain, remain medically unexplained. But there is evidence that changes in the brain or nervous system are caused by previous physical ailments such as tissue damage; in such cases, the brain may continue to send out pain signals despite the physical cause having healed. To aid patients under these circumstances, a recently developed treatment known as pain reprocessing therapy (PRT) is designed to help the brain “unlearn” this response. A PRT practitioner helps individuals to reduce the “threat value” of their ongoing pain signals until they can reappraise them as less threatening and fear-inducing. They also help an individual to develop new emotional regulation skills.

How long does therapy for chronic pain take?
There is no set timeline for recovery from chronic pain, especially as there may be a range of physical and psychological causes for any individual’s discomfort, but most patients should expect to see a therapist for a number of weeks or months, typically spanning at least 12 sessions. Studies of pain reprocessing therapy found that many individuals’ experience of pain lessened in eight sessions over four weeks.
