I specialize in working with couples in all stages of their relationships - from those who are dating or engaged, to newly married or navigating life with children or facing issues related to blended families, to those who have been together for decades. I also work with individuals navigating divorce, helping them process the challenges that come with that journey so they can come out on the other side in a healthy way. When clients arrive at the first session nervous or ambivalent about whether counseling can really help, I focus on putting them at ease and building confidence in their own ability to create the change they want.

Hello! Thanks for checking out my page. I have over 25 years of experience in therapy and currently offer ONLINE therapy for anyone in Washington state. For most people, counseling really works. If you try counseling, you will know if its working within the first 3-5 sessions. Some people need just a handful of sessions to get back to their old selves, others choose to stay involved to deepen their growth. Whichever you choose is up to you, but taking the first step is most important.

Those who have felt, or have been influenced to feel, that there is something broken or wrong with them because of what they’ve experienced, how they’ve responded, the way their symptoms present, or because of their stigmatized diagnoses, I welcome you with genuine affirming and caring support. Responses to trauma are vilified; self medication, complex and multi faceted symptom and behavioral expression, stigma attached to not having safety. I bring non-judgment, respect, skills and experience, a painstakingly curated knowledge base, and true empathy to the table. These are my people and I just want to help them heal.

Often, we find ourselves in places or circumstances we did not expect that leave us feeling sad, overwhelmed, anxious, lonely, scared, tired and stressed, but we do not have to do it alone.
I work with individuals couples and families, to help them explore how thinking, feeling and behaving might be impacting their lives and how the past might be playing itself out in the present. I believe exploring people's values, passions, experiences and spirituality allows them to discover true meaning and hope during difficult times.

Anxiety Therapists
When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

What are the most common types of treatment for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
