Now accepting new clients! The world is a better place with you in it. There might be times when that might not feel as true as you'd like it to feel. I work with adults and teens ages 16 and up who are seeking support with finding how they fit into the world. As a
queer
and
trans
clinician, I am passionate about providing quality, affirming care to
LGBTQIA
+ people. I work with clients who are making sense of past abuse, navigating life while being impacted by intersecting oppressions, and renegotiating relationships with habits that no longer serve them.

I primarily work with people who are struggling with anxiety, depression, and distress in relationships (whether that is partners, family, or friends). My clients are mostly young adults or older, although I am happy to work with younger children in the context of family therapy. Additionally, specialize in working with those in the
LGBTQ
+, Ethical Non-Monogamy (ENM), sex worker, and Kink communities.

My outlook as a
queer
, nonbinary, polyamorous, kinky therapist is simple: you shouldn't have to lead the way into an unknown place and take your therapist on a rainbow safari at the same time. I know how hard it can be to find affirming, competent, and culturally sensitive therapists who understand basic polyamory terms, how kink culture is grounded in consent and mutuality, what transition is like medically or socially beyond the common stereotypes and so on. At the same time, many therapists assume every issue that comes up has to do with your identities, even in completely unrelated circumstances! We don't do that here.

I enjoy collaborating with individuals and couples, especially those who identify as Black, Indigenous, POC or apart of the
LGBTQ
+ community, to access their innate healing power, reclaim ancestral knowledge, and achieve their vision of wellness. I practice with the beliefs that everyone is the expert of their own story, and have the power to heal themselves under the right circumstances. I provide support to those ready to process and work through past trauma, grief, relationship challenges, life transitions, spirituality, identity struggles, multicultural experiences.

Hi! I'm Lou. I work with
queer
and
trans
young adults on a healing journey. Therapy can be a challenging process and it is my goal to meet you with compassion, support, and a safe space to help you through whatever difficulties or pain you may be experiencing. As a part of the
Queer
and
trans
community, I understand how important representation and connection is. Of course, we all have our own unique stories. Your story is not my story, and my story is not yours. However, I find that it is incredibly helpful (and dare I say, healing even) to have that common understanding and shared experience with my clients.

I am currently accepting new clients! I serve individuals, couples, and families who are part of the
LGBTQIA
+ and poly/ethical non-monogamy communities. Living in a society that prioritizes profit over people and systematically privileges & oppresses based on identity takes a large toll. I believe therapy is a resource to help us navigate living in this world and be intentional about how we show up in it. My approach is to meet people where they are at and support them in exploring what tools, resources, and practices can best aid them in living into their authentic selves. I would be honored to be alongside you on your journey.

My previous professional experience includes working with
LGBT
+ clients at Seattle Counseling Service and adolescents and their families at Seattle Children's Hospital.
I am currenty on maternity leave and not seeing clients until June 2023. Healing and caring for ourselves is hard work. Sometimes painful, often fulfilling, occasionally tedious, it is a necessary part of being open to the experiences that life has to offer us. Therapy is one way to find support in healing from trauma, managing our health, and discovering and practicing new ways of caring for ourselves. As Audre Lorde wrote, "Caring for myself is not self-indulgence, it is self-preservation, and that is an act of political warfare." This work is important, both individually and collectively, and I am here to help you with it.

As a member of the kink, polyamory, and
LGBT
+ communities, I'm especially aware of the many difficulties that can surround living openly.
Do you feel alone, lost, or broken? Is it hard sometimes to feel like you're worth much? Maybe it's been a long time since you felt seen and heard by the friends, family, and partners most important to you. Is this how you prefer to live? It's my belief that you are not broken and you are not the problem. You are a whole person whose relationships are being robbed by the problem. You deserve to find a new way of living that honors your best hopes and truest self. Whether you are a couple, family, or individual, Other Spaces therapy can help you find your voice so you can live more authentically.

I am affirming of
transgender
and non-binary people and enjoy supporting and exploring personal identity and experience.
As a therapist, my goal is to walk alongside clients as we explore their unique experiences and struggles. I believe that people have innate creative abilities when it comes to healing and self-understanding. Sometimes stress and trauma can block or limit our ability to connect to that innate skill. I utilize relational and strengths-based approaches and support people’s understanding of their own self and path. My therapy background revolves around trauma, attachment, and growth in parenting/caregiving. I enjoy working with parents/caregivers of children with complex social, behavioral, relational, and developmental needs.

My work is client-centered and strength-based with a commitment to anti-oppression, particularly within the
LGBTQ
+ and BIPOC communities.
We are living in some challenging times. If you’re struggling, that means you’re human. Know that asking for help is a strength. My therapy is collaborative in nature. I treat a range of difficulties using a variety of techniques. I work from an attachment perspective that is emotionally focused. I believe therapy involves the presence of your entire being (mind/body/spirit). Ultimately, I believe human connection is one of the most important healing tools. Thus, I create a safe therapeutic environment where growth and discovery can flourish. I bring my full self to my work – my optimism, my directness, my persistence, my humor.

Some of the issues I work with are: issues related to a diagnosis of cancer, grief, relationships, issues faced by
trans
and gender non-conforming folks, spirituality and questions of purpose and meaning.
My approach is compassionate, collaborative, strengths-based and client-centered. Seeking help in difficult times is both vulnerable and courageous and it is important to me that clients feel respected and understood in our work together so that I can support folks to more effectively address the challenges in their lives. Through our work together my clients are able to become more deeply connected to themselves and others. I am
LGBTQIA
affirming and often work with people who have had non-traditional life experiences.

It takes courage to start therapy. You've probably tried a number of ways to do this yourself. You want to feel better, more in control and not be so bothered by certain people, things, and past events. That is exactly what I am trained and experienced in helping people do.

Call today for a free consult! Also, yes! If you are
transgender
, neurodivergent, BIPOC, clairvoyant, polyam, and/or have other identities oppressed by society you are welcome here!.
I help stressed out over thinkers find healthy self love and balance. Call for a free consult! For over thinkers nervousness runs on autopilot in the background. You don't know what career is right. You put up with being treated in unhealthy ways. The worry about how you are perceived by others is constant. You rehash conversations in your head over and over. You're irritable and insecure, gripped by self doubt. Part of you knows that these negative thoughts are ridiculous but they take over anyway. You just want to wake up calm. To have a healthy relationship. To work a fulfilling career without feeling lost or fearful.

LGBTQ+ Therapists
Do LGBTQ-affirmative therapists receive special training?
Yes. Many therapists who practice LGBTQ-affirmative therapy have completed specialized training, either during their degree program or as continuing education, to learn the core principles of affirmative therapy and how to best support their LGBTQ clients; some have received certifications in LGBTQ-affirmative therapy. Prospective clients should inquire as to a clinician’s background and training to ensure a good fit.
Why might I want to see an LGBTQ-affirming or LGBTQ-friendly therapist?
Queer and gender-non-conforming individuals frequently experience bias and marginalization in day-to-day life. Working with a therapist who understands these unique challenges, as well as accepts and affirms their identity, can help LGBTQ clients feel safe and supported during therapy—allowing them to better navigate their relationships, mental health, and anything else that they wish to explore during therapy. It is important to note that many therapists can be effective in their work with LGBTQ+ individuals, even in the absence of specific training or background knowledge. The most important component in therapy is the alliance between therapist and client, and this alliance can exist between individuals with very different backgrounds.
How can I find an LGBTQ-friendly therapist?
You may wish to inquire about a therapist’s expertise with your specific challenges or concerns—depression, for example, or relationship strife—as well as their past experiences treating LGBTQ+ clients. Prospective clients may also ask whether a therapist has obtained additional training and/or certification in LGBTQ-affirmative techniques.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience with LGBTQ issues?
Prospective clients should feel empowered to directly ask therapists whether they have received training or been certified in LGBTQ-affirming therapy; competent therapists will be happy to explain their educational background and preferred approach(es) to help a client find the best match for them. Clients may also wish to ask how a therapist has treated clients with their particular challenges in the past and what they expect treatment to look like.
Are all the therapists listed in the LGBTQ directory themselves members of the LGBTQ community?
While therapists may choose to disclose their sexual orientation or gender identity in their profiles, the LGBTQ directory features not only those who have shared this information but also those who assert specialized training or experience in providing support to queer individuals, couples or families.
