I approach my work using a client-centered, strengths-based model. I view every individual/family/couple as unique, utilizing methods and techniques best-suited for each situation. My experience includes many areas, all pertaining to individuals, couples and families. I am passionate in working with women, teens, couples and the LGBTQ community. I was trained in Family Systems Therapy; I approach therapy work holistically, focusing on the individual and extending beyond, to the interactions between family members and significant others. I work with clients to help them recognize how extended family, culture, and society may impact them as individuals.

My belief is that we are all human trying to learn and grow in an ever changing environment. Change for some can be difficult to cope with and result in maladaptive coping skills and other mental health concerns when emotions overwhelm us. I believe that the therapy relationship should always be collaborative and I approach every individual differently to meet their needs with where they are in life. In the therapy process we will assess your different environments and relationships to help understand your current barriers you are seeking help with.

My therapeutic approach is grounded in positive regard: I recognize that each client has a complex history and am committed to creating an environment where you can openly explore your internal and external experiences, free from judgment and criticism. I prioritize a collaborative therapeutic relationship, where you can retain autonomy and agency throughout the process. Above all, the quality of the therapeutic relationship can often be the biggest contributing factor to successful therapeutic outcomes, so it’s okay to be picky!

Endeavoring to improve your emotional quality of life takes bravery. I am happy to see the scales tipping in favor of mental health in recent years, however, we must acknowledge asking for mental health support has been culturally counter intuitive for generations. Reaching out for counseling and consultation is the first and most important step. As humans it really is ok to say that sometimes we "aren't always ok". Shame does not actually exist in the same space of asking for help.

Anxiety is awful. Most people just do not understand how difficult it is to live with chronic worry, panic attacks, or obsessive thoughts and unwanted behavior. Gladly, most people will never have to know how horrible it is to have nagging obsessive thoughts, or fear panicking in public places. The variety of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapies (CBT) like Exposure & Response Prevention (ERP) and Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) are quite effective in increasing distress tolerance, reducing anxiety, and eliminating the dysfunctional behaviors that accompany it.

I provide a safe and comfortable environment in which people can explore the concerns that brought them into psychotherapy. Life sometimes presents with challenges and obstacles that seem impossible to get through. One may often times feel alone and that there's nowhere to turn; but there truly is. I look at the whole individual and their experience as unique and focus on helping the person reveal their true self; the person they always wanted to be.

I believe in tailoring the therapy to meet each client's individual needs. I primarily use psychodynamic therapy which helps the client gain self-insight but also use a variety of therapeutic techniques including mindfulness and cognitive-behavioral methods. Being able to stand back from one's self and gain perspective about one's personality, choices and actions are important in helping an individual work through issues. I help the client explore what issues from the past or present may be contributing to depression or anxiety.

Having grown up in Taiwan, studied in the U.S., and spent a few years in China and Singapore, I truly understand what it feels like to adapt to new environments while trying to stay true to yourself. You work hard, but it never feels like enough. You’re overwhelmed but can’t slow down. Your mind races, making it hard to feel grounded. You want stronger connections, more balance, and to feel present in your life. Most of all, you want to feel at ease with yourself and trust that who you are is enough.

Fears, worries, feeling too little, feeling too much, feeling out of place in our own body or feeling out of touch with the world around us... all of these get in the way of us living the life we want to live. Whether its due to past trauma, recent life changes, or just dealing with the state of the world these issues can block us from doing the things we want to do and from having the relationships we want to have. If this sounds like you, then help is available

Unexplained physical symptoms like upset stomach, headaches and trouble sleeping are all too common experiences my clients share. Suffering from mental ping pong, confined by thoughts, rituals, memories and anxiety. I often work with creative, smart and excellence driven people who experience mental health symptoms in their body, feelings and thoughts. We work together to get you out of these cycles, out of the confining "fix it" box and living your life the way you want, authentic to your values. For couples feeling like you're having the same fight, sick and tired of being sick and tired, wanting to feel connected, close.

Do you long to feel seen, heard, understood, and accepted in your relationships? When communication breaks down or conflict keeps repeating, it can leave you feeling lonely, frustrated, or unsure how to move forward. Many people come to therapy feeling stuck in painful patterns with their partner, overwhelmed as a parent, or navigating a difficult season of life. I work with couples and romantic relationships, families, adolescents age 13 and older, and adults who want support strengthening their relationships and developing a deeper understanding of themselves.

Hope, possibility, insight, change; these are the gifts therapy can offer. Because anxiety, sadness and fear are part of what it means to be human, I feel it is essential to find meaning in our challenges. There is strength in understanding. I believe we all have the seeds of healing within us and my role in this process is to listen carefully and to provide feedback and support along the way. I respect your unique perspective and your gifts.
