What makes us unhappy? From years' of clinical experience, I summed up three main factors that contribute to our mood issues: unhealthy relationships, unhealed trauma, and unmet inner needs. Hi, I'm Yuxi, a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in Washington state. I work primarily with couples and individuals wanting help with stress, anxiety, trauma healing and relationship issues. I strive to provide person-centered care with every aspect of the counseling experience. Struggling with confusion and anger? Family, friends, co-workers taking you for granted, or don't listen? That's frustrating, and I'd love to help! Can't sleep, work, or focus on important matters because of ongoing arguments in your head, or an urge to find someone to blame? Maybe you feel trapped, and no matter what you do, that feeling of not getting anywhere makes it worse. It's so upsetting that slowly you are losing confidence in your sanity. Everybody experiences something like this occasionally. But your life doesn't have to constantly be this way.

We believe that therapy is an important life choice that people make when things get tough. This courageous decision must be honored with compassion, empathy, and sincerity. I began this practice because I am passionate about helping people and sharing in their journey towards greater health and happiness. It is important for people to feel safe in therapy, and thus people can feel free to say what is on their minds and in their hearts and will always be met with compassionate understanding.

I work with people coping with trauma and stress, especially stressors related to substance use, family of origin, parenting, relationship issues, and abuse. The cumulative worry, grief, exhaustion, and loss of hope that so often accompany these challenges can leave you feeling overwhelmed and alone. In our sessions, we will work together on short-term relief, along with deeper explorations oriented towards lasting change. New ways of relating to yourself and others bring about new experiences that reignite your sense of hope and nurture change. I offer calm, thoughtful, nonjudgmental support to you and your family on your journey.

Welcome! I am so glad you are here! I am passionate about client care and developing a therapeutic rapport. I believe our emotional health depends on our abilities to embrace our feelings, move toward social interest and attaining goals of self-worth relationships, work, and life in general. Our emotional and mental health suffers when there is inconsistencies between the image we have of ourselves and the world around us. My goal is to help clients gain accurate perceptions of who they are in the world and the world around them by giving clients the support and tools needed to traverse the difficult terrains of life.

Therapy is an opportunity to renegotiate your relationship with yourself and important others in your life. It starts with understanding who you are and deepens into an investigation of whatever it is that hinders you from living an authentic, purposeful, joyful life. As your therapist, I'll support you in identifying what you need to experience meaningful engagement in your life and to embody that self-knowledge in creative, powerful new ways.

Marriage Counseling Therapists

How does marriage counseling work?

Marriage counseling works by teaching couples concrete skills to communicate with one another and solve disagreements in healthy ways. A trained mental health professional works with both members of a couple to explore difficulties the couple may be having and helps them develop skills to address these matters. Couples who don’t have any difficulties but want to prepare for marriage may develop skills for the future.

How long does marriage counseling typically last?

Marriage counseling is a short-term form of therapy; the process may last between four and eight sessions. Other forms of relationship guidance from mental health professionals, such as couples therapy, are longer lasting, may focus on the past rather than just the present, and are tailored to the individual couple and their emotions, history, and patterns in the relationship. Couples therapy often lasts for 12 weeks or longer.

Is marriage counseling effective?

Marriage counseling helps many couples develop relationship skills that may not have been acquired or tested in a relationship; partners may be better able to communicate and address conflict following counseling. However, there are many different forms of marriage counseling, and this form of counseling does not have as strong an evidence base as other modalities such as couples therapy.

Is marriage counseling effective if only one partner wants to go?

Yes, marriage counseling can still be effective if one partner convinces the other to engage in the process. Of course, whether counseling is effective depends on the couple’s commitment to work on their relationship; however, the short-term, skills-based nature of marriage counseling makes it a relatively easy “ask” of a partner, and the hesitant individual may see its value once counseling begins.
