You’re maxed out. People around you think you have it all together, while internally you’re imploding. You feel like you’re never doing enough and you could better control everything if you just tried harder. Maybe you struggle with a disordered relationship with your body or food. If you're wanting to free yourself from the constant worry cycle you find yourself in, then I would love to partner with you. Together we will create an environment that feels safe for you to give voice to your current struggles.

I provide psychotherapy to individuals and couples . I also do hypnotherapy and psychological evaluations. My theoretical orientation depends on your needs and the type of therapy you are seeking. In order for psychotherapy to be effective, there must be openness and trust, commitment to change, and an attitude of collaboration between client and therapist. Together we will explore the problems that led you into therapy, discuss your past as it is relevant to your present situation, and establish goals for your treatment.

I believe that therapy is a place where you work through difficult issues with another individual, a counselor. The therapeutic relationship is different from relationships with friends and other natural supports. The counselor assists you in developing your own strength and wisdom that is within yourself.

Therapy is an opportunity to renegotiate your relationship with yourself and important others in your life. It starts with understanding who you are and deepens into an investigation of whatever it is that hinders you from living an authentic, purposeful, joyful life. As your therapist, I'll support you in identifying what you need to experience meaningful engagement in your life and to embody that self-knowledge in creative, powerful new ways.

Many years of practice with adults, couples , and groups has taught me a lot about life, love, meaning, and contentment.
Why go to therapy? You might seek therapy when experiencing emotional pain or stress, even confusion about a situation or about yourself. Life challenges can pile up and seem overwhelming. Worry can interfere with relationships, work, or sleep. One goal of therapy is to relieve anxiety and every session should offer greater understanding issues and some anxiety relief. You might feel alone with your concerns—that’s normal. Therapy offers a place of understanding and acceptance, a place for problem solving, and for you to to feel safe with your feelings and thoughts.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
