I have a MA in Clinical Psych specializing in Pre- & Perinatal Psych, was a birth doula, and I am certified in NeuroAffective Relational Model (NARM), and a certified Grief & Loss Professional.
You love your child fiercely, and still, you may feel overwhelmed, terrified, angry, numb, or like you are failing at something everyone else seems able to do. The parenting books seem to work for everyone else's kid but not yours. Your neuro-sparkly child needs support but therapy is scary, and they are resistant. Your child won't "sit and talk" but what even is "play therapy" and how can it help YOUR child? Your teen, well, they won't talk to anyone. Forget worksheets and goals. And you want support too. Welcome to Elowen. Here, therapy is different, and tailored for your kid and for you.

You keep asking yourself, Why can’t I just let it go? You’ve tried to move on. You’ve buried the memories, pushed through the pain, told yourself it wasn’t that bad. But it still shows up—in your body, in your relationships, in those moments when you feel anxious, frozen, or overwhelmed. You’ve been told to forgive, to forget, to be strong—but deep down, you don’t feel safe. Maybe part of you still believes it was your fault. The truth is, you don’t need to ‘get over it.’ You need space to heal. Safely. Gently. In your own time. That’s where trauma therapy begins in IA (50067), WA (98520, 99166, 98841) & WI (54154, 54456, 54521).

Are you are feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or depressed? Sometimes life brings us to a place where we need to reach out and find help. If this is you, I would love to partner with you and help you find the solution that best fits your needs. Healing starts with connection and finding the space for yourself to discover what is happening within yourself. Counseling is most effective when there is a connection with your therapist while discovering the triggers, patterns, and thoughts that often interrupt your quality of life.

Somehow we've come to equate success with not needing anyone.

I support adults and children experiencing perinatal or postpartum mood challenges, developmental differences, neurodivergence, ADHD, anxiety, and depression.
I help you find a balance and realistic expectations during the most challenging transitions in life. I enjoy parent coaching and often integrate "bug-in-the-ear" technology, which allows me to speak directly to the parent, while guiding you through play therapy with your child.

I specialize in narcissistic abuse and trauma. This includes narcissistic abuse from parents, partners, family members, in the workplace and in high conflict divorce. I work with children of borderline, narcissistic, emotionally immature or self-absorbed parents. I will help you heal the confusion, self-doubt and pain these relationships cause. I believe unhealed trauma is at the root of most of our pain and suffering. Trauma is stored in the body and it will stay there unless we actively work to release it.

I work with families raising children whose needs do not fit a standard approach: ADHD, autism, the school and behavioral challenges that often come with them, and related concerns like toileting, bedwetting or soiling past the expected age. Some parents reach out after a recent diagnosis; others have managed on their own for years. My approach combines cognitive behavioral therapy with close collaboration with parents, informed by case consultation with a neuropsychologist colleague and research at an academic medical center. I offer structure when a situation calls for it, and step back to give you room to think when it does not.

Do you ever feel like you can't find peace? Stress and anxiety are challenges on their own. When they begin to impact other parts of our lives and lead to chronic health conditions, life can feel overwhelming. Sometimes it can feel as though there is never time to rest, or maybe you've forgotten what rest even feels like. If that's the case, you're not alone. The pace of our modern world is not in alignment with how our nervous systems are built to function. That's why I specialize in nervous system regulation and helping individuals to cultivate resilient and adaptive nervous systems.

Does it feel like you’ve spent your life following a script that wasn’t written for you? For many autistic women and girls, as well as those with ADHD, life often feels like a constant cycle of masking and autistic burnout. You may have been told you’re "just anxious" or "sensitive," but you know there is a deeper explanation for how your brain processes the world. As a board-certified psychologist I am dedicated to helping neurodivergent individuals move from surviving to thriving. My practice is neurodiversity affirming, meaning I don’t see your brain as something to be "fixed."

Pregnancy, Prenatal, Postpartum Therapists
What are the most effective ways to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns?
The most effective way to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns is by finding a therapist who has prior experience helping other patients overcome the challenge being faced. For example, a marriage and family therapist may have experience helping couples adjust to their new relationship dynamic. An anxiety specialist may have experience helping with phobias or illness anxiety related to the child’s health. A depression specialist may have experience treating postpartum depression.
When should I seek treatment for prenatal or postpartum concerns?
Pregnancy and the postpartum period involve intense physical and mental changes; a degree of upset and instability is normal. However, if these changes impair daily functioning, it may be time to seek help. This distinction is pertinent for postpartum depression: A period of teariness, irritability, and distress is difficult but normal in the one to two weeks after childbirth (sometimes called the “baby blues.”) But if feelings of sadness and hopelessness persist beyond that period, the person should seek treatment.
How do I manage worries during pregnancy or the postnatal period?
A therapist can help patients develop the tools they need to manage anxieties during or after pregnancy. Cognitive behavioral therapy can help people identify and reframe harmful patterns of thought, and change their behaviors. Other techniques and skills can allow people to develop acceptance, psychological flexibility, self-compassion, communication skills, and more.
Are there specific medications for postpartum depression?
In 2019, the FDA approved the first medication designed to treat postpartum depression. The medication is called brexanolone and is delivered intravenously by a medical professional over the course of a few days. However, typical antidepressants, which are more accessible, can also treat postpartum depression. The disorder is often best treated through a combination of medication and therapy.
