I am happy to meet with you in person or by phone.
Anxiety, depression and other issues can take us off guard, blindsiding us by suddenly challenging our confidence, undermining our autonomy, and bringing to mind some of our most difficult experiences. It is common to assume these problems will go away on their own or if we just take a break. It is my experience that over time these problems reoccur in even more confusing and disorienting ways that might lead to crisis, leaving us feeling even more isolated and vulnerable. Sometimes the most difficult step is just asking for help, to place ourselves in a position of vulnerability.

I offer individual counseling to grievers. As a suicide-bereaved mother myself, I offer traumatic grief counseling to parents and other grievers. Because child loss can be so isolating, bereaved parents often find companionship in a group to be a comfort on this difficult lifelong path. While religious/spiritual notions can be a support, often they are not. As people of conscience, we can lean into what comforts and release what is no longer helpful; sometimes clients grapple with their changing beliefs in sessions. Traumatic grief often leads to changes in beliefs and I companion that exploration. I am a humanist.

My clients are multi-dimensional people - with physical, psychological and spiritual needs - who are doing the best they can to have a gratifying and meaningful life. My role as a therapist is to assist each person to expand their awareness of self and interactions with others, and to identify and change unsatisfying patterns and behaviors. Partners: When couples first start counseling, they often have a lot of anger, hurt, and sadness. Couples therapy is designed to find solutions to problems, express and let go of resentments, rebuild trust through good communication, and learn to live with different points of view.

Ah, this life! In the lyrics of an old song, ‘Nobody said it was easy, no-one ever said it would be so hard’. I’ve spent most of my life dedicated to human connection- to self and other— bringing deep curiosity to how we can belong deeply to ourselves, and still be loved and belong deeply to one another. It’s not easy. Yet, it truly is possible. And, we need courage and guides along the way. That is where I can help. Our time together is a place where you can unfold yourself. Where you can learn to trust again. I am skilled at working in the deeper realms of grief, depression, anxiety, trauma, and above all intimacy and sexuality.

Occasionally, it is difficult to discern our needs and desires during changing stages of life or after significant life events. During these times, we may be unable to see all our available choices. Additionally, we can experience self-defeating behaviors that are barriers to experiencing the full range of life. Sometimes this is based on learned belief systems causing faulty assumptions and cognitive distortions we have adopted about ourselves, others, and life. Through therapy, I provide counseling services to a wide variety of diverse adult clients, aiding their navigation of transforming life's obstacles into opportunities.

I work with individuals, couples and families - biological and chosen. I believe in addressing the wellbeing of mind, body and spirit. I am committed to helping all people access deep meaning, healing and connection (with self, others, and nature) by meeting them wherever they are in their life.
I value the process of unlearning. This often means the unlearning of the harmful messages that white supremacy and cis heteropatriarchy have taught to our bodies, minds, and communities and that often become internalized. I am passionate about justice, about liberation, and about connection.

The origin of the word, "heal", means to make "whole". As we are impacted by the inevitable woundings and traumas in life, we tend to adapt by splitting off essential parts of who we are. Healing is both a remembering and a discovering. It requires trust and patience as the tectonic plates shift. We are internally rearranged. I appreciate working with highly sensitive and introspective individuals who are unequivocally committed to this process. Perhaps you have come to the point of feeling overwhelmed by the intensity of your experience. The former maps and tools are no longer working. There is a sense of being stuck.
