My 30 years as a Sex Therapist in private practice has enabled me to work with a large variety of relationships, sexual problems & intimacy issues. I can offer a safe place to discuss, explore, and create solutions for whatever difficulty you're experiencing. Some Sex Therapy is short term (1-6 months) and often involves sexual education & permission to experience pleasure. Most Sex Therapy requires longer term therapy (1-2 years) because of relational dynamics, unhealthy beliefs about sexuality, anxiety, attachment issues from childhood, unresolved grief, trauma recovery, learning to identify & convey your sexual needs/wants.

Accepting New Clients. I work with individuals and couples experiencing relationship issues and specialize in the perinatal years - focusing on all the stressors of trying to conceive, experiencing pregnancy, preparing for birth, recovering from birth, and postpartum. Becoming parents is the greatest role adjustment in our adult lives and one of the greatest stressors to our relationships. It makes sense that it's hard, but you didn't think it would be this hard! We need our partners more than ever, so relational conflict can feel especially painful during this time.

I work with clients to clarify their goals and then figure out what we can do to support those goals and identify anything that has been interfering with achieving those goals. In other words, I start with focusing on the future, not the past. I prioritize understanding over suggestions because I believe that once people understand what they want they will make healthy choices.

If you are having difficulty coping with the loss of a loved one; have experienced sexual or other types of abuse; if you feel sad, anxious or worried most of the time; if you are having conflict in a personal, marital or family relationship; if you want to improve your parenting skills, or just want to learn how to manage stressful living, I can help you.
Serving as a minister and earning a PhD in Counseling Psychology equipped me to care for people in crises. Working with vulnerable children and their families or caregivers, also proved to be a valuable foundation for clinical care. In a medical academic setting, training residents in the use of spirituality and psychology as they cared for their patients, deepened my own understanding of just how complex clinical issues can become. This also increased my understanding of the level of stress healthcare providers and victims themselves experience during illness. This is especially relevant in the present COVID-19 environment.

The quality of our personal relationships is one of the most important things in life. Relationships of all types--romantic, parental, friends, co-workers, etc.-- have the capacity for both tremendous joy and tremendous aggravation and heartache. My speciality is working with couples to help improve romantic relationships. Humans were created to be in relationship with one another and whether I am working with an individual, a couple or a larger family unit, the client's ability to maintain healthy relationships with family and loved ones is a primary focus.

" Areas of clinical focus are intimate relationships, including infidelity or intimacy/sexual issues, trauma recovery, family concerns, & eating disorders.
You want to break free from painful relationship issues, self-defeating behaviors, and just feeling "stuck." The wonderful thing about therapy is that it provides you with a sense of relief - with hope that things CAN get better - by giving you a safe, respectful and non-judgmental space to speak freely about what is troubling you, or what is painful in your relationship. I work to create a safe, respectful and supportive environment that alleviates feelings of aloneness, and facilitates connection, awareness, healing and positive change. You are not the problem; the issue is the problem.

I provide child, adolescent, adult and family psychotherapy. My practice includes working with survivors of abuse and trauma, as well as those who experience OCD and anxiety disorders. It takes courage to reach out for help. Are you experiencing spirals of doubt? Do you constantly live with uncertainty? Do you avoid, seek reassurance, or mentally ruminate? Do you get stuck in a worry loop? Are you reliving trauma reminders? Are you burdened by intrusive thoughts? I know that your thoughts do not represent who you are and I want you to know that you are not alone. Your fears, thoughts, and experiences are safe in this space.

Whether "you" are an individual, couple or family , I am always honored to get to know you and help facilitate the emergence of your unique core self which lies ready to be seen, known and fully lived.
No matter how straight & smooth we try to make it, life is, by nature a crooked line & a bumpy road! Depression, anxiety, grief, trauma...all by-products of living life. Fortunately, we are hard-wired for health; drawn to people & situations that foster our transformance. However, we develop coping/protective mechanisms that hinder that innate tendency to thrive. We create stories about ourselves & the world that keep us scared & isolated. Therapy is the sacred and confidential space in which these, up until now, forbidden feelings, self-thoughts, memories can be carefully, sensitively and intentionally brought forth into the light.

I have worked as a nurse in Pediatrics and Family Medicine.
Deciding to come to counseling is a first step toward improving lives. I can help with anxiety, depression, coping skills, communication, and transitions. Talking to someone who can see things from an outside perspective can help you determine how to improve what is not working in your life, set goals, and learn new skills which will move you toward that goal.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
