Relationships are what bring us joy in our lives, but sometimes despite our best efforts we come upon a stumbling block. We find ourselves struggling or unable to connect to those we love and sometimes even to ourselves. Maybe issues from past relationships get in the way, maybe there is a trauma to the relationship (such as illness, job loss, or simply entering a new stage of life such as parenthood or midlife). There may have been an infidelity, loss of job, or emotional issues such as depression / anxiety. Often we just feel a lack of connection we once had.

Hello, we are accepting new patients! Whether you're feeling down or anxious, struggling with hurtful and dysfunctional familial dynamics, having difficulty achieving a healthy work-life balance and/or enduring or wanting to heal from past or current traumas, you have found an ally. Developmental, relational and attachment trauma disconnects us from ourselves, our loved ones and even our spirituality. These types of traumas can leave us feeling isolated, unfulfilled and despondent. We all deserve to feel at peace - and that begins by learning how to heal.

Life is not a flat line- often times there are peaks and valleys. Because of that we all need a space to feel safe. heard and valued. Being faced with these hurdles and challenges might feel unmanageable therefore, having another perspective and/or learning some new skills to ease this time can make a situation feel more endurable. My goal is to provide a spot where you can reach the outcomes that you desire. I strive to assist in this journey by using the strengths of each person so that they can achieve the life they so choose.

Maybe you or your child are functioning from a naturally anxious space, or maybe you are here because something scary or hard has happened. Maybe you found yourself here because you desperately need a professional who will work with you or your child's neurodivergent brain, not against it or in spite of it. Whatever brought you to this point, I am here to support you in finding new ways to connect back into yourself and with your child. I do my best work with kids, tweens, and young adults who may be highly sensitive, neurodivergent, anxious, or grieving.

Have you experienced being in a space where there isn’t anyone who looks or feels like you? You felt different and unwelcomed somehow... Did you experience difference in a way that made small paper cuts in your heart? Using a trauma-informed integrative approach to self-discovery and healing, I invite you on a journey to explore how your lived experiences shaped your perception of yourself and the world around you, your pattern of communication, and the relationship that you have with yourself and others. Key questions driving our work together: (1) Who are you? (2) How did you get here? (3) Where would you like to go from here?

Life is unpredictable with many ups and downs. No matter how much we want life to move in a linear fashion it often goes unplanned causing us to feel off balance. I believe therapy is a safe place to begin your own personal journey and learning to be present in your life. It allows you to rediscover who you are. Therapy is different for every individual and/or couple. I have an EMDR, existential & integrative approach to helping clients create healthy, fulfilling and rewarding lives. I integrate therapeutic styles depending on the best fit for client and situation.

Are you ready to embark on a path of relieving your individual and relational traumas, stresses, and conflicts? We all carry the burden of unresolved pain from our past: from our family of origin, from societal and cultural expectations, from ways in which we were taught to compromise our nature, the list goes on. With guidance, presence with feeling, and creating new meaning we can let go of the past so that we can open to the present.

Healing starts when empathy is offered first to your own journey and then to the world around you. It would be my privilege to support you throughout your journey towards healing, uncovering a deeper comprehension of yourself, and the world around you. As a therapist I work alongside each of my clients by examining your lived experience and perspective to better understand how you comprehend and move through reality. It is through exploring our lived experiences and perceptions that we can become more aware how we operate, respond, and live in this world and can facilitate healing for ourselves and in our relationships.

Something profound happens when your most authentic self is met with unconditional acceptance and validation. I believe Brene Brown says it best, 'Courage starts with showing up and letting ourselves be seen.' To bravely give ourselves permission to show up when we're depressed, overwhelmed, hungover, irritable, enraged, lost or simply disappointed. Or when we feel we are 'too much' for some and 'not enough' for others. It can be deeply meaningful to have a space where you can fill it with all of who you are, without apology or shame, and feel truly seen and accepted.

It takes courage to seek help. Whether you are trying to make an important decision, facing a crisis, or in the middle of a major transition in your life, it makes sense to seek counsel. Sometime we’re feeling stuck and isolated while longing for more community and personal growth. Unresolved childhood issues, grief, and/or trauma can negatively impact your understanding of self and your view of others. It can lead to anxiety, depression and negatively affect your ability to develop healthy relationships.

Some people ask why I became a couples therapist, and my response is: "I was born a therapist." I enjoy the uniqueness of each client and their situation, how they have attempted to solve their problems, and how they are stuck. There are many situations that are similar among clients, but the interplay with each individual and their situation is infinite. Congruency for me is key. Being the person I ask others to be, holding each person with tenderness and creativity while we move toward their goals is transformative in the therapeutic process.

You are just not the same anymore after it happened. You now struggle to sleep, find connection with others, or ultimately experience joy in your life. You are stressed and you wish you could stop thinking about the event(s) but somehow you cannot turn your thoughts away. Perhaps you find yourself avoiding certain topics, places, or people because they remind you too much of what happened. You long to be the person you once were and to have the life you once had. You are tired, worn out, and you need to somehow find a way forward in your life.

Adoption Therapists

Does my adopted child need therapy?

Not every adopted child needs therapy. However, many can benefit from seeing an adoption-informed therapist, especially if they were victims of abuse or neglect, appear withdrawn or disconnected, have behavioral or developmental issues (which may or may not be related to their adoption), are struggling with feelings of grief or loss surrounding their birth parents, or find it difficult to establish an identity, a challenge that often becomes most apparent during adolescence.

When should adoptive parents seek therapy?

Prospective parents can benefit from therapy even before an adoption—for example, to voice worries and fears; to reconcile infertility struggles, if relevant; or simply to prepare themselves for parenthood. After the adoption, parents who are struggling to bond with their child; are unsure how to talk about adoption or related issues, such as race; or whose child is dealing with developmental, behavioral, or psychiatric concerns can address these and other issues with the help of an adoption-competent therapist.

Is family therapy appropriate for adoptive families?

Family therapy can be invaluable for strengthening the bond between adoptive parents and children, helping the latter feel more secure in their place in the family. Family therapy can also help adoptive families navigate complex communication issues—for example, parents who feel uncomfortable discussing race with their child, who in turn feels invalidated by their silence, or a child who has questions about his birth parents but avoids asking them out of fear of hurting his adoptive parents’ feelings.

What therapy is not appropriate for adoption issues?

A discredited therapy known as “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy” or “rebirthing therapy”) should not be used to treat adopted and foster children, though it was largely designed for this population. Attachment therapy involves restraining, coercing, and punishing the child in order for them to “release” negative emotions and attach to their new caregivers—techniques that are abusive and dangerous and have even proven fatal in some cases.
