Our mind-body connection is extremely powerful. When we are stressed, we might experience bodily discomfort and/or mental health concerns that cause difficulty functioning in everyday life. This is completely normal! I encourage you to close your eyes and listen for two to three minutes. Do you hear that little voice in your head? It takes awareness and practice to navigate that little voice, that speaks to us 24/7, for it to be an asset in our healing, growth, and self-regulation.

Life doesn't always turn out like we expected or planned. All of us experience different degrees of struggle on our individual journey. Over the last 8 years I have been working with adolescents, teens, college students, adults and athletes in areas of anxiety, depression, stress, grief, life transitions and much more. I believe people who struggle with anxiety and depression can thrive when they have a safe place to process what they are feeling. I believe that being present on your path, growing toward your goals and healing any past or present hurt can help you be the very best version of yourself.

My approach to counseling involves a balance of grace and truth. I strive to provide a safe, caring, supportive environment while standing alongside and challenging my clients to learn, grow and overcome obstacles. People would describe me as being a good listener, appropriately directive, and compassionate. I pull from different schools of thought according to the client’s individual need. I am drawn to a solution-focused approach because indiviuals choose their own behavior, and therefore are instrumental in choosing their own solutions. Together, my clients and I work to establish goals to deal with life's difficulties

Life Guide Northwest was founded in 2010 in Portland Oregon by my late father Stevie B. Hoggans. His sole purpose in establishing Life Guide Northwest was to create a treatment agency to support the specific needs of the BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and people of color) community. This level of support was not available in his community, which dealt with socio-economic challenges which manifested into issues such as behavioral health conditions, crime, substance abuse, poverty, and homelessness. Like my father, I am passionate about helping ALL individuals who are struggling to navigate interpersonal challenges.

You've been doing your work, but are finding it's not enough to make the changes you're ready for on your own. You're getting clear about what you want, but need help seeing it through. Making changes can be one of the most difficult things in our lives, especially when they effect our relationships and people we care about. My hope is to encourage the process of change by helping clients make difficult choices and to learn to identify and speak their Truths aloud to themselves and to others. My ideal client is close to being ready to take action, and needs some moments of support in those final moments.

I greatly enjoy working with young and/or emerging adults, professionals, men in relationships, and differently able'd individuals. I see you as the expert of your life, which means that I see my role as that of a guide to walk alongside you instead of telling you where to go. Through this process I will provide you with tools and skills to manage and improve your mental health as well as your overall wellbeing. I have a knack for learning how people best integrate information in a way that is useable and serviceable. Everyone learns in unique ways, and I will help you practice these tools and skills in a way that works for you.
