So many people have companion animals, dogs, cats, guinea pigs, hamsters, all different kinds of animals that are family members. When our companion animals die, we are often extremely grief stricken, and live in a society that might not understand that grief. As a counseling psychologist who has dogs and cats, I certainly understand that grief and the need for support. I’m a licensed counselor who offers grief counseling for pet loss. I would love to help support you through this difficult time.

Life is meant to be lived fully, but often there are circumstances that get in the way of our ability to engage at the level that we want to. Whether that is a trauma or loss or a major life stressor that has made life seem unbearable, you can receive help and there is hope of moving forward and living life to the fullness of your potential. My counseling practice stems from the belief that each and every human has value and deserves to be seen and heard, regardless of age, background, or status. I work with individual adults and adolescents employing trauma-informed care on your path to recovery from life’s difficulties.

Welcoming New Clients! I work with individuals going through a major life transition such as burnout, grief/ loss, "empty nester syndrome", a career crisis, break-up/divorce, etc. They are surprised how this change has revealed things about themselves that have been too painful to acknowledge until now. Whether it's underlying anxiety or depression symptoms, perfectionism, "people-pleasing", regret, grief or shame, they want to learn more about who they are so they can have a more fulfilling relationship with themselves and others.

It is my goal to foster psychological flexibility, personal accountability, congruence, and access to life force energy for the people that I am serving. I strive to increase their capacity to have a full range of experience. It is my hope that ultimately when people gain a bird's eye perspective of themselves that they will rest in self compassion for themselves and ultimately be free to be their authentic selves and recognize their wholeness. By weaving curiosity, openness, acceptance and love into the therapeutic process we can begin healing.

Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy is a research validated method in which partners learn to identify harmful and entrenched patterns within their marriage and develop the skills to engage in a new way. Your relationship may be highly reactive and conflictual or feel like an emotional desert where closeness disappeared long ago. In either case, EFT can help you create a partnership that is nourishing and a haven for personal growth. I am an advanced practitioner of EFT. I work with both heterosexual and same sex couples.

You’ve had ups & downs, successes & failures, you’ve kept getting up when you’ve fallen down & you’ve carried on. But now, you’ve hit the point where you don’t want to keep reaching for the next thing, keep pushing those recurring thoughts & feelings away. You want to transform parts of yourself & experience something different, to find a sense of wholeness. Maybe it’s stuff from childhood that won’t leave you alone, the racing thoughts, the self-criticism, the anxious feelings, the broken relationships with others or with yourself, the anger, the stress, the sadness…Whatever it is, there’s hope for something more, something better.

Therapy can help you to cope with heightened anxiety, depression, loneliness, and lack of purpose. With online video conferencing, I provide regular therapy without you coming into the office, in addition to in-person availability. Therapy provides a safe place to ask the questions that scare us, to find connection and healing, to feel good and be authentic, and take charge of our lives. I support clients' efforts to gain insight into the sources of their challenges and pain, find connection, make positive changes in relationships, identify strengths and resources, cope with personal history, and take charge of their life.

In my approach to counseling, I listen attentively and non-judgmentally. I focus on people’s stories and the stories the world tells about them. I value these narratives, and hold them during our work together so that we may reference them in the process of creating a story that feels more in line with my clients goals and purpose. I also work with clients in exploring ways to alleviate suffering, reduce stress and increase self empowerment and enjoyment of one's life. My approach is strengths based and I believe we each have all the answers we need within us, sometimes we just need help teasing them out or trusting them.

You have worlds to explore within yourself, so much strength to uncover, feelings to connect with, and pain to heal. My intention is not to "fix" you, but to help you reclaim your power so that you can feel confident in your innate ability to work toward balance and growth. My aim is always for you to feel safe, seen, and heard. In a world that seems to constantly pull your energy outward in a way that doesn't serve you, I want to provide you with a space where you can turn inward, with intention and compassion.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
