I see the fact that you are here looking for a therapist as immensely brave. I honor your courage. I genuinely love people. My personal experiences with childhood trauma, family relationships, religion, and the sciences have granted me opportunities to empathize with and understand a diverse range of emotional, mental, and relational issues and to apply effective treatment methods for my clients. I am aware that my privilege and life opportunities require me to be intentional about providing a safe space for my clients, especially those who have experienced marginalization and societal oppression and I consistently strive to do so.

I believe that the relationship to our self is the most important relationship that we will ever have. A bond with a therapist who witnesses and understands us in a nonjudgmental way can be a wonderful ally in improving that relationship and making positive changes in our lives. Trauma, attachment issues, toxic families of origin, oppression, grief, and ancestral/family patterns are just some just some examples that can cause suffering that motivates someone to start therapy. I have experience working with clients with depression, anxiety , panic attacks, PTSD, and other mood disorders that make it difficult to function in life.

Assisting people in accessing their natural ability to heal themselves through the power of the vagus nerve not only reduces anxiety and depression symptoms but also allows people to feel empowered to use their bodies in service of the mind.
I too am a Woman, Mother, Partner, Daughter, Sister and Friend. I marvel at the mysteries of women and the sacred bonds they have with their children. I admire any woman who has dared to love and had their heart broken. I rise and walk with my sisters when they fall from the pressures of everyday life. I seek to understand how I can be of service to women and children of my community. I listen, wholeheartedly to the cry of grief when it seems like no one else seems to be listening. I am here to hold the space for you and yours.

I believe that each person strives to feel contentment and become the best version of themselves. This can mean something different to each person, which is why I enjoy the diversity that each individual brings to therapy. It is exciting to watch the growth that individuals experience with some guidance and support. I specialize working with mood disorders & trauma. Trauma is any experience that has overwhelmed your ability to cope and has impacted how you now perceive yourself and the world around you. We can work together to heal and grow past previous experiences so that you can be the best version of yourself

Everyone wants to be heard. One of the most fulfilling experiences for us as individuals is to tell our story and have it heard. My first priority when working with a new client is to find a way for them to tell their story and then to hear/receive it and validate their feelings. People have a variety of ways for communicating their feelings and experiences, for this reason I utilize several different interventions to help the client share their story in a safe and comfortable environment. My services are available in English and Spanish.

Is your pain overwhelming? It could be that: You lost a person you deeply cared for. You were hurt by someone who should have cared for you. You want to build a new relationship with food and movement. You have a big, audacious, goal, and you can’t take the first step. You haven’t been able to sleep well since… You might notice that: A pit of sadness is pulling at your stomach. You’ve suffered from lifelong diarrhea, constipation, or gastroesophageal reflux, and you've been told your symptoms are in your head. You are not alone. It’s not abnormal, in this world, to feel the way you do.

I work collaboratively with clients through a systemic lens that is influenced by attachment and feminist theory. I consider the contexts of your personal environments as well as the contexts of systemic oppression and intergenerational trauma that are influencing the issues you’d like to address. I work with couples through the Gottman Method. I have completed the trainings for Gottman Method Couples Therapy Levels 1 & 2. I recognize that my clients know themselves and their identities more intimately than I do and that people have what they need to heal. My job is to walk along side you as a guide on your path to wholeness.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
