In my practice, I emphasize both change and acceptance, seeking to help you build the life you want to be living. Sometimes when individuals are in therapy, they begin to understand the causes of the problems they are experiencing while continuing to feel stuck. I focus on balancing an understanding of these external influences while supporting you with specific tools to help you to react differently. Often this work begins by focusing on dismantling the disproportionate levels of guilt individuals have internalized which blocks their ability to change.

In my experience, healing and transformation is a process of "unearthing" existing strengths, tools, and self-compassion that may have been lost through adverse experiences, trauma, or chronic mental health challenges. While learning new coping skills is important, I believe much of the medicine for healing our own wounds exists within us. I think good therapy requires a 'remembering' of the old gifts and integrating the 'new' tools. I believe that clients are the most valuable wisdom-holders in the therapy space. I hope to align with my clients to tap into their own inner wisdom to reach their goals, whatever those may be.

My ideal clients are curious about themselves and open to growth, even when it's uncomfortable. They may be at a crossroads, going through a major life transition, or struggling in their relationships. Some carry unresolved grief or trauma; others are adults newly recognizing their neurodivergence. Others find me through word of mouth from clients who've experienced real success in this work. Whatever brings you here, I'll meet you with honesty, curiosity, and authentic care. If you're ready to do the work, change is absolutely possible.

My experience includes working with individuals who have co-occurring disorders such as a substance use diagnosis and a mental health illness(s): anxiety, depression, bipolar, schizophrenia, and psychosis.
When I hear the words "ideal client," I immediately think about someone who is willing to change. This is someone who is wanting to work on themselves and is ready to take "personal inventory." Someone who is open, honest, and vulnerable with themselves and their therapist. A client who is willing to engage and participate in the process of bettering themselves. We can work on managing stress, day to day challenges, or learning coping skills. We will work together on a therapeutic approach that is right for you.

I work with a wide range of individuals and diagnoses including psychosis, bipolar disorder, anxiety, depression and PTSD.
Endeavoring to improve your emotional quality of life takes bravery. I am happy to see the scales tipping in favor of mental health in recent years, however, we must acknowledge asking for mental health support has been culturally counter intuitive for generations. Reaching out for counseling and consultation is the first and most important step. As humans it really is ok to say that sometimes we "aren't always ok". Shame does not actually exist in the same space of asking for help.

Do you feel lost? What is your identity - your sense of self? Are you your own person, or are you someone else's? I hope in partnership with you to define who you are at your core. Whether you struggle with depression, anxiety, trauma, or any other mental health symptom; our humanity is not just physical, but emotional as well. Thus, it is necessary for us to direct our attention to the wound in that child-self, an emotional wound that informs our mental health challenges. I will use the tools I have to bring an understanding to yourself, and to build coping and boundary-setting skills to put to practice that insight.

Veterans, first responders and front line staff, do you feel like your family wants to talk about things, but you know they can never understand what you are going through? Has your family told you that you have an anger problem, or do they leave the room when you enter? Do you think “maybe I should talk to someone, but I don’t want it to show on my insurance?” You can have confidence in the therapeutic relationship I offer. There will not be any reports submitted to your employer or chain of command, this is just a safe place to be able to process your experiences from your job or your missions.

Consciousness is evolving. This is a complicated and stressful time to be alive, but we are all in this together and we will get through it with grit and with grace. I have over 20 years' experience working in community mental health and in private practice, and my specialties include working through the painful memories of trauma, childhood sexual abuse, family conflict/abuse, and other deprivations which create low self-esteem and cause depression and anxiety. I am also interested in how capitalist culture undermines our ability to express ourselves creatively, and how the pressure of modern life can thwart vitality and hope.

Psychosis Therapists
What’s the most effective treatment for psychosis?
The most effective treatment for psychosis is coordinated specialty care. In this model, a team of professionals works with a patient to address all aspects of the underlying disorder. This approach incorporates individual or group therapy, employment and education support, family support and education, medication management (which often involves low doses of antipsychotics), and case management to facilitate problem-solving as needed.

When should people seek treatment for psychosis?
People should seek immediate treatment at the earliest indication of psychosis. Symptoms include delusions, hallucinations, disorganized or blocked speech, and agitated body movements. Early signs that a person may be developing a disorder that will lead to psychosis include suspiciousness of others, memory problems and distractibility, an inability to think clearly, rapid or nonsensical speech, withdrawal from friends or family, aggression toward others, and sensitivity to bright lights or noises.

What if psychosis is left untreated?
Without treatment, psychosis can have significant repercussions, including injuries, job loss, homelessness, financial or legal trouble, ruptured relationships, and suffering for the person and their family. While early treatment for psychosis often yields the best results, there is no point past which it becomes useless to seek treatment. At any point, treatment can make a difference.

How do I get someone else to seek treatment for psychosis?
It’s extremely difficult to watch a loved one suffer from hallucinations, delusions, and other elements of psychosis—sometimes exacerbated by their fears of treatment. Have a conversation with them in a quiet space and maintain a calm, supportive tone. Share your concerns about behaviors you’ve observed, suggest treatment, and explain the potential benefits. Listen carefully to their responses. The person may not be ready after one conversation, but with time, they may come around.
